Yes, that is a normal struggle ^^;;; Eventually you will be able to open more slots on your exosuit, starship, freighters, storages, etc.

One way to open more slots on exosuit quickly is to buy the slots at space stations (one per space station, if you have money). Also, you can find exopods on planet surfaces and upgrade that way (for some materials).

Yeah, warping through the core takes you to the next galaxy on the list. That's one way to do it. Someone can also give you a taxi (Join your game and help you get to a galaxy they have access to) or you can check Featured bases at the Anomaly's teleporter, some of them are in different galaxies.
