With the oceans and waves that they have now it's the first time that they've done any separation of water geography of the planet before that you had your water table the planet was covered in. And it was always at the same level. Wherever you dug down it was always there.

But now the oceans are completely separate system of water to the water table that you see throughout the land that you dig down to. Or the lakes that generate.

So it's baby steps. Working on the water physics while also getting terrain generation to create more realistic River patterns

I wish they would sort out these worlds where it looks almost like an ocean world from space, but as you get in, land renders everywhere. And then when you land and dig, you find water a bit below surface -- and if you do 3rd person in the tunnlel you're digging and shift slightly so you can see clipped outside of the tunnel (I use that alot to spot other underground caves on normal worlds) you see it's just water everywhere -- but you can't get to open water.

Well it's the third Act of the game. So you have to complete the first two before you can access the third. That's what purple stars are

That's not how the game is shaped now though. For us who played before purple stars in that entire storyline and questline it feels that way. But for anybody else playing the game from that point on it's just a continuation of the main story

Check out the Galaxy map from a fresh save. You'll notice all these white dots that are super small all over the place. And then once you unlock purple stars you don't see them anymore.

They arent white dots, theyre trail effects

They usually dont show up except when youre moving your camera in map view

Also the reason I didnt count purple star quests as part of the main story is because if it were up to me what counted, I would count the base terminal quests as part of the main story

A common question chain is

"How do I access purple stars?"

"You have to complete the Artemis and Atlas quests"

"Oh I'm like 200 hours in and I haven't even really done much of those. I'll do those"

People will play this game for the longest time without knocking out those quest. Hardly touching them sometimes

Which shows it's a really good sandbox. A proper sandbox is enjoyable without any main quests attached

This is a game made for squirrel chasing Gamers by squirrel chasing developers. And it's super easy to get distracted just randomly doing things that you find fun

My original save I probably wouldve done the main quests, but I played during a time the main quests got updated and changed

After that, I felt kinda lost and directionless in my original save

Once you have access to the anomaly and space station you are hit with so many things to do on the side that you just get pulled in multiple directions. The main quest becomes secondary because it doesn't offer as much
