Well, the way I see it, HG's updates miss as often as they hit, and a great deal of the "upgrades" are tangential, and don't attenuate the core gameplay, but rather just tack random nonsense onto it while egregious errors and gameplay weaknesses remain untouched for nearly a decade. Like getting Milking and bone-digging instead of basic fighting maneuvers or correcting many-years-old shader mistakes

It's pretty open ended. You're "supposed" to fly to the center of the galaxy, but suffice to say that there's a lot more to it than that. You just explore until you don't want to anymore, get stuff, upgrade it

NMS has a very good sense of humor. Most of the intractable people in the game are just numbers so whenever the game looks to make stats for them it’s just BS. I found a settler who’s “likelihood for joining a cult” was listed as “outstanding” and that made me chuckle

A freighter with maxed out hyperdrive gets between 5000 and 6000 ly per jump, you can get to the center in a bit over a hundred jumps. Black holes average around 6000ly of progress as well. You can also just portal to right outside the core.
