Farm derelict freighters for modules. Find an S class derelict and it will keep dropping S-class modules.

for salvaged frigate modules just visit lots of space stations and hit up every guild. their stock replenshes after some time, so you can just keep doing a circuit if you want.

means you also need to rank up in the guilds though

When you finish the derelict run and you select the option for a technology upgrade, if the uprade is S class, then every time you do that same derelict run, it will always give you a random tech that is S-class

You unlock their terminals at the Anomaly Station if you don't have the terminals already.
By adding them to the base, it automatically triggers you to go to the space station to hire the NPCs

When you get in, the first ramp take you to 3 "stores", on your left there is another ramp, take it then right, opposite to Polo.
From left to right, those are the aircraft specialist, the base computer where you unlocked everything base related and required salvaged technology.
Then the exosuit specialist, on the other side you have the mining tool specialist, exotic goods computer, and the exocraft specialist

You seem to have just started the game, keep everything now, sell later.
Build the storage at you base and keep loading them, specially with "rare items", it will make your life easier when unlocking technologies, weapons that do require items that aren't straightforward to find and you will wish you hadn't sold things.

Build a base close to an electromagnetic field preferable instead of using the boring solar power, add a teleport making your life easier to jump in an out, also only the teleport at the base allows you to teleport to a pirate controlled space station and vice-versa.

Back to the base, make sure you unlocked all the containers/storage blueprint at the Anomaly Station, the base NPC will unlock them eventually but it will take time, speed it up.
Now you have 10x container with 50x slots each that are shared globally within the game, store everything, sell as you get to know more what is important to keep and what it is not.

The issue with that is player into multiplayer which I am not.
We all know that there are players building bases to trap/kill newbies, players using their corvette to kill other players exploring those bases.
Nothing is preventing players who used save edit to use their ultra powerful weapon against other players.

One of the main reasons why I will never play this game online.

Yeah, in my logs I only see barren/scorched planets, or at least I havent identified any barren/frozen ones. IIRC though, the wiki says the barren planets can be either scorched or frozen. Certain biomes can mix, like marsh/lush or marsh/toxic.

Gas giants are disappointing

They should not have a definite surface
