That might be the intent, but that's not how it works. XD

In general, an increased gun count WOULD function as purely a visual change because all other guns fire in sequence. It doesn't matter how many guns there are if they fire one at a time.

The problem is that Phase Beam is coded differently. It doesn't fire in sequence. All barrels go off simultaneously and keep going as long as the trigger is held.

Yep, I just confirmed.

3k per hit with one Phase Beam array installed, 6k with two.

This is on Live. It's consistent with what I found where I have 22344 damage per tick with 6 installed in experimental.

22344 divided by 6 turrets is 3724 per beam. in Experimental.

Essentially, the only reason they say it's "visual" is because of the fact each shot fires in sequence and results in the same number of rounds downrange no matter the number of guns. The projectiles themselves are all very real and do collide.

But Phase Beam does not have projectiles. It's just a hitscan DOTevery 0.5 secs. So as it's coded, it just straight up ignores the "visual" part.

Two barrels fire, and then the oldest one is dropped and the next one in queue is picked up.

In live, only 2 turrets cycle like this between each other, resulting in 4 barrels dropping rounds downrange.

In experimental, they allow up to 7 turrets.

Then they pushed an update that changed the planets so much they "packaged" your base up so you could relocate it since where you originally built it was no longer the same to prevent breaking bases. Fun times. Then I started a new save and that's what I've been on ever since.

I think they still give you the S class upgrade if you ignore their hails and blow them up.

It's when you land that the game decides you don't get the upgrade.
