Galaxies are huge maps and there is 256 of them. Each one contains billions (1 billion = 1 000 000 000) of Star Systems

Number of systems in a galaxy? No, I think it's way more then that. Galaxies have ~4.2 billion regions and each has hundreds of star systems and then we have 256 galaxies total

Yah generally the missions are created around where you go and you can always reset missions in the log to form objectives based on where you are.
Everything is randomly generated until someone actually visits a system and there are more stars in no man sky then grains of sand on the planet earth.

After you get some navigational data take it to any space station and talk to the cartography and then select exchange specific charts and then grab the "emergency cartographic data" then take those charts fly to a planet that doesn't want to kill you and then do the objectives that pop up.
If you get a red message pick a new system/planet.
