Always remember to turn off pvp and player markers in permadeath. Never know if someone who manages to find you on a nexus mission or something doesn't attempt to kill you with splash damage

The alien maps. Should only take at most six on a planet. Don't forget when you get the big structure to answer correctly and hand in whatever is race related

Also sometimes runaway mold is a reward for Nexus missions so you can check that out

Hmm, the giant (sand)worms are indestructible, those are just very very very hard to hit, as I recall. (Long ago, I learned the hitbox and the displayed (visible) fauna model did not line up. No idea if that was ever fixed, but it made all flying creatures really really hard to hit and kill. (But still managed to, a few, for quests at the time no longer in the game.))

The griefing tends to come and go in waves over the years. We might be at a low point right now, but when new releases come out and we get player surges, the griefers come back also looking to pick off the unprepared. (Dang default to PvP on for every new save, still?!?)

Yah, and it is all down to RNG. I mean, I actually only ever saw Squids for about 4 years in the Nexus Anomaly player ships... And then one day I stumbled across a region in Euclid with favorable RNG and found three systems in a row with them. (I started a multicolor Squid collection in that save 🤣)

There are several different varieties, each with an RNG range of height/flight behaviors, and then for each variety an RNG selected specific skin for those type. So for example, you will see the UFO skin and the Smoker skin using the same near-ground circular (usually spiral) patterns, while the Butterflies can actually land as well as fly higher, and the "Worm-light" ones can go much higher (very rarely near the surface, and I think I've only ever seen them do that in Mountainous planets), etc.

Lol, I used to hit the "Worm-light" ones with my starship as I was coming in to land. I don't know if the collision hitboxes are still possible for starships and fauna.

(That flying fauna was one where the hitbox and the displayed creature were really not very overlapping, making them hard as heck to shoot down, but I think I plowed into them accidentally with the starship around that time.)

The "paw" display for them is still quite distant from the "body" displayed, as I recall.

I'd say it depends
A) NMS is massive to the point you're only with players if you know where you're going
B) this has been experimented before with other games such as fallout 76, people that didn't like pvp still complained as they chose to play in pvp servers (probably due to the fact that pvp servers yielded more xp)
Personally I'd say just having a pvp on/off switch us just fine
But probably allowing players to set their own default of every new save having it on/off is good
Or if the game detects a new player, or every new save file, to ask if to have it on or off

Yes, letting players set their own default for PvP is likely the best idea of all.

And/or atleast prompt the player to be aware that network settings can be modified at any time

Since iirc pvp on/off is a network setting
Not a difficulty setting

So even if u make a permadeath or mods-off file, you can still enable & disable pvp

It has been years since I recall seeing a roadkill-via-starship though. I suspect that was removed around the time the station quests to hunt down flyers were removed also, as I recall it.

I haven't even seen roadkill by exocraft lately... (I may just be driving more carefully. Lol, I used to stop and use Terrain Manipulator to bury the roadkill sometimes: dig a hole under the roadkill, then restore terrain once it falls in.)

My only complaint about the PvP thing was, I wish for new saves and expeditions, it was off by default. So if you wanted PvP you had to enable on purpose specifically.

Knowing my reckless handling of exocrafts, only roadkill I get is with the nautilus against enemy explosive jellyfish
