When fighting NPC starships I tend to destroy the shields using the cyclotron ballista and then destroy them with one blast with the ships rockets. I don't know if using those is the best of the best for combat though

Genex (a company) was the owner of that half of the tower, therefore the name of the tower itself, Genex Tower

Sometime during the collapse of Yugoslavia it ceased to be a thing, and all the offices of the tower were abandoned, there were even lufthansa offices, all of that is still there, just abandoned and not used, and the building is still supplied by electricity, interestingly enough

Yep! The 95% of it will be just empty but the highest floor of the residential building will have a room from which you'll be able to see the views, and i'll also furnish the interior of the skybar

Though, nowadays that bar is abandoned too, but videos of people squeezing inside the abandoned part of the tower prove its still used in some way, people find bottles of water, filled, and modern stuff in general, which shocks a bit because most of the tower has 2013 stuff, the year where that half of the tower was abandoned

Its so abandoned that Belgrade nowadays just uses it as a big billboard to place stuff, they currently have 2 massive Serbian flags hanging on there, but they place ads there too sometimes

The vast majority of my bases are utilitarian, and even built at POIs to take advantage of their in-built features. Every now and then I find some terrain I want to interact with and then build something nicer... Give it time, you'll find something that speaks to you too.

Yeah, I kinda tend to look for a good spot, then find out there's no hotspots nearby, search around, end up having to put the base on a hill or something

At a factory POI you can use that to either get nanites or learn a blueprint after you beat the local puzzle. (Which gives you an override and puts you in the "use" menu at the same time. If you cancel out of it, you pick up the override for beating the factory puzzle instead.)

I have this paradise planet in the first purple system I ever found (questline) but the dang thing consists entirely of an archipelago of hills and mountains in an ocean. Like I just barely found a single thing that actually counts as a beach. Still haven't found any flat land on that planet.

However, fauna, flora, and mineral discoveries reset every so often (so you can rediscover for rewards again). However stellar systems and planets/moons data persists, and shows how long ago and who discovered them, forever (so far).

Only 1/6 of addressable systems were previously visible in the star map (and so, reachable by warping), and I believe the purple systems came from those "reserved" addresses. But there appear to still be remaining addressable/unreachable (commonly called "phantom") systems even so. So, we still have room to grow 😉

Yes, you won't see anyone. You can visit uploaded bases left by others. But you won't see the player active.

We have access to Online Discovery Services, we exist and build in the same shared universe and can upload bases and play expeditions. But we can't actively interact with other players ingame.

Only thing you won't see is other players being active. You should still see their discoveries and their bases (at least when your Switch connects to the network Online Discovery Services to download that data).

Hmm, when I tested it, I did see another player's base on that same planet. Are you sure both saves were the same mode? (It filters by game mode, or at least did back then. Earlier to that, it also filtered by platform, but we've all been merged into one lump now. Hmm, that merger did some "collision avoidance", where the oldest uploaded data was preferred when there was a conflict. I think that eliminated some uploaded bases in the conflict resolution, but they would have to be overlapping as I recall.)

I used to build multiple bases on a given planet until I learned only the most recently uploaded is kept for download by others. (Though if you host a multiplayer group, they see all bases in your save at that point.)

Someone on here used to host parties on their "home" planet where they built an extensive resort with several bases. We would join their group (which showed us all their bases on the planet), then leave the group to let others join. Once you see a base, it stays in the buffered other player bases in your save. So we had a lot of folks visiting (like about 20).

For a given player, only the most recently uploaded base on a given planet is downloadable by others, yes. However, if visiting other planets, you get all the downloadable bases from all the players who have a downloadable base there. So if you visit my galactic empire, you can see all my downloadable bases, one per planet.

When you access stuff in other people's bases, you are only accessing your local save data. In another save visiting the same location, you would see nothing, since it is a different copy of save data.

That is why we cannot really raid people's bases by the way. Picking plants, mining, etc. it all just comes from your local save instance, and the "owner" of the base will never be aware of that. (Unless you both happen to be in the same multiplayer group and physically close enough in-game for the backend to share activity between you. The only time it could even incovenience someone is if two players in the same multiplayer group (as I understand it) both come to the same base at the same time. One might empty the silos and the other would find them empty. But if they aren't close and visit the base separately, both would find the silos full still.
(We tested this long ago. There was some indicators that the multiplayer group host's notion of silo status did make a difference, as well, but we got inconsistent results.)

I ran into a save file max size bug (since fixed) and was trapped in that oldest save within a bubble about 1000 light years radius from 2016 to 2020 when I discovered a workaround to finish repairing the damaged save.
(The long version: the save file expanded until it hit the filesize limit, at which point it truncated the "discovered systems" data. If you have a base in one of the systems purged from the file, you were OK as long as you were close enough to the system for it to be in the downloaded system data from Online Discovery Services. However if you went too far away, it would not be in the cached data downloaded and would be missing from your own save file (due to the bug that truncated it) and Galactic Map would crash.
HG fixed the filesize bug allowing save files to keep growing again, but there was no way to repair the missing data. However, I eventually realized (four years later 🤣) that I could *teleport to the bases with missing system data and "rediscover" them to repopulate the missing data. Several hundred bases later, Galactic Map stopped crashing, and I could finally finish the Atlas Path... 🎉)

It's because there is only room for six planetary objects in the system. The purple systems allow for a planet with up to five moons, where other stellar colors can have only two moons per planet at most.

Hmm, I think Atlas and Black Hole systems can't be in one system, though you can have a space encounter with a black hole in an Atlas system. (It is only transient though.)
I had a space encounter with a black hole in a Black Hole system, and it led to the same place the system Black Hole led to (I think each system has a predetermined "destination" for any black holes in it, space encounter or systemic. There is another space encounter that has a gateway rather than a black hole, but it too leads to the same destination as the black holes do.)
