It sounds sort of like sword-dashing in Sea of Thieves. It was a bug that was so useful that the devs made it official and balanced it properly. You can lunge with the cutlass such that it makes you swim really fast for a few seconds. Essential pirating skill 😛

in my first playthhrough i got given some items in the anomoly by another player, sold them, got rich and never did any quests and i deleted it to start over

That’s fine, you aren’t on a timer or anything
The only thing that might happen is, if you go stray too far from a few locations it assigns you to visit, you might have to reset to nearby structures.
But, you can get around this largely (if you decide to go off wandering) by making sure to always visit the space station in every system. Makes it easy to backtrack
