I normally do that myself, if you have a huge amount of mods, I use my ships cargo hold to keep the mods. Once I transfer to the new freighter, I just put all the mods onto the new freighter from the starships cargo hold.

So, I get two ships. (Preferably with fully expanded cargo holds) 1 for freighter equipment/mods the other for freighter cargo hold contents.

in your catalogue, you can look for glass or frost crystals, and then click "locate" or whatever it's called, and it'll find a system with a planet with that resource
