Yeah, you can still get pretty screenies, just not as crisp as when you have a newer TV

If you build a building but have an open spot in the floor... You have safe fishing spot even during storms! So the world can be literally on fire and you'll be fine

if you purchase an alien chart from the cartographer in a space station, it has a chance of leading you to a monolith. if you solve the monolith's interaction correctly, you get the option to get the location of a portal in the system

Oh, if you’re building underground, no it doesn’t. My base has been underground for a while. It does sometimes occasionally poke back through the walls, but you can just mine it back out again, but it won’t fill-in if that’s what you’re worried about. However, staying away from your base too long, There is a chance it might spawn back in

Many folks do... You have a limit of 399 bases, so can't build two per galaxy (there being 255 plus one), but folks do build at least one, or in my Grand Tour save I am building one in the "arrival" planet in every odd numbered galaxy and one on the departing edge of all the galaxies so I can readily revisit them all.

Mined terrain will regenerate over time, so burrowing to make a base isn't a great idea as it will require maintenance

Digging into the terrain and building underground isn't really recommended. I mean, you can do it, but terrain regens and it can be buried. If you need lots of Silica Powder, it's not a big deal. I've built in large caves plenty of times, though.

My oldest surviving save (started in 2016) predates bases in NMS. When they were added, at first you could only have one. Later on, I went through "phases" of base-building styles. One of those involved building in caves. And then a release came that changed the cave terrain algorithm. It was fascinating revisiting all those bases in caves to see if they were still viable. (A very few were buried under-the-map, but more commonly the change was just to the cave mouth, so only minor maintenance was needed.)

The staff multitool is awesome but I wish they would fix the standing still stance so it doesn’t look like you’re just holding it upwards but lowering it would make it seem more normal
