Yeah, event has a cooldown and game counts it down by itself. Multiple things can pause that timer like alt tabbing, loading screen or pause menu so 3h of game being open doesn't necessarily correspond to 3h of the cooldown

Reading the internet, apparently the Radiant Pillar (startup ship) also has better stats than average, and can be upgraded to next class with fewer nanites than normal, apparently.
