Way way way back I made a pyramid base with a tunnel going down into a natural cave. I put a tunnel leading out for exocraft, like the Batcave, and a somewhat intricate combination lock on the horizontal door into the stairs using a bunch of switches

Salvage data is also best used to unlock building blueprints and not for selling

As far as I'm aware there's only the nautilon that will get you that far down safely. I've got all the underwater tech and still take damage if I go too far down (around 400u I think it was)

If you feel squishy when taking damage some shield upgrades might be a good choice

If you're strong enough to fight sentinels, they sometimes drop exosuit modules. Those can increase both your health and shields, but they're not always very good
