When completing the questline it's recommended you jsut take the default one. You can trade it later. Note that you never have to do the quest again.. the next ship will just need an egg and 10k nanites.

Getting a specific one requires VERY precise method, and can be tricky... and can be fouled up if you don't know how. So do you know how?

you have to be able to find the general location (i think it's 400-800u fromt he crash site) without actually identifying the crash site. If you visor ir and it gets identified, then the starbirth quest will NOT trigger that crashsite. It will trigger instead the next closest one.

It's not really negatively impacted the experience at all since I haven't found anything to spend a ton of money on. I bought a multi-tool worth like 10k. I've added some ships to my fleet. I bought an absolute metric ton of wiring looms. Other than that it's all still just sitting around.

The way you do this is the wire glitch.

Basically take something a sizable, take it to the biggest size and then put it into the cash by pressing a button. I forgot what it was and a wire edit button.

Does anyone happen to know if NMSFM is still currently being updated with new material and maintained? I only recently started playing the game, March 10th but found NMSFM on the NMS Assistant App and started listening regularly. I'm not on Twitter/X but tried contacting Veritas Velez on his YouTube channel. Looking around I haven't seen any new posts by him on YouTube, reddit or here in about two years so was just wondering about the status of NMSFM. If he's no longer active, is someone else maintaining it? Or perhaps he's still active and I just haven't looked in the right places? Only wondering. It's a curiosity quest. I don't need anything in particular. No bytebeats to submit or anything like that. Not yet anyway...

I had to repair one fairly recently. It has been awhile since I've needed to though since mine are mostly leveled up now.

yes they have red circles on their stats instead of white ones, about a year ago you used to have top board them and repair their equipment in person

Yeah, when I was just starting out and kept having to trapse around on catwalks repairing frigates I wrote a longish post on Reddit asking "Why is this my job??" 🤣 I'm like, I command a fleet of 30 frigates, oversee a settlement, have bases in multiple galaxies but I don't have some yahoo to send over to repair these things?

I can understand why the Gek do, the Korvax were persecuted by them so used their nanite blood to liberate themselves from being enslaved by pouring it into the Gek breeding pools. They literally "re-programmed" the Gek

Well, I'm not sure. Are you saying you have one or several that are damaged but the game isn't allowing you to go repair them? Because if so, that's new information to me. The last time I had a broken one, a few weeks ago, I was able to teleport over and make repairs. Perhaps something has changed since then? 🤔

Oh yeah. I didn't know what the stuff was good for at first. I sold a lot of it off at the Galactic Trading Terminals just to get rid of it for a handful of units. When I learned later I could refine those down to nanites I was like...doh!
