I tried to do the Thought Provoking mineral survey; it said look for the specific planet in the galaxy map. I never saw any specific planet. No special symbol that I could see. Any ideas?

Maybe the mission switched, try re-clicking your active mission in the log and see what the tip says in the bottom right

and the recheck the galaxy map

Easiest way to make Nanites without cheesing the game is find an Abandoned Building with the piles of alien eggs and just run around collect all the eggs then reload game. You can refine the eggs for a lot of Nanites
