so another player and I settle on this planet. We THOUGHT it was all steep mountains and whatnot. The planet starts out as terrible storms and whatnot.. then..the planet shifts to paradise status. We get out and explore a bit only to find the planet ALSO has large oceans... flat land. hilly land and THEN the steep mountains! Soooo...

yes, the game was never designed to be a proper multiplayer experience

Just got MP bolted on top what it was in later updates

Multiplayer is the lead cause of many glitches / bugs in the game

You got the main story line, plenty of side quests, you got Nexus missions to do for shinys

You got all the different activities, just take a look at the channel names for some examples

It's a sandbox game set in virtually infinite universe, you gotta find something to do

So from what I can, now see base parts will still render after a reaload even if built outside the atmosphere
But, I was able to do that only by using base claiming animation, if you try to build something outside the atmosphere you will get "Base out of range" even if building something that doesn't need a base

No Man's Sky doesn't try to replicate IRL systems, no. There are other games that intentionally do that or at least attempt it. NMS simulates some aspect of an infinite-like universe, full of galaxies, regions, and solar systems. But you can't expect a SIM like a experience in this game, which is a lot more imaginative and free, for the exploring type who don't want to take hours traveling across its infinite-like universe

I think it is worth playing, there's a lot to explore and something for everyone in the open world space game that is no man's sky, multiplayer isn't dead imo, and the way it works is having multiplayer enabled will allow you to join people's games or have other people join your game to form groups, but when not in a group, other players can be seen nearby, although it is rare outside the anomaly or community expeditions

Worth it depends on what you do, to me it is. MP is not much of the focus but it works okay. The questlines are best solo, the best way to find people to mp with is to make some friends and the game is far from dead. You can enable mp and possibly run into people out in the galaxies but it's not likely given the scale. The anomaly is a hub where you can see other players and join up for missions with them.

I find chatting in this discord while I play makes the game feel less lonely as well. Feels like a guild chat.

Dunno what you've done, but every traveller's gravesite will give you the next glyph that you need. The only time this does not happen is if you're using the grave as part of a mission or quest.

to find a portal use the pilgrim/roamer exocraft radars, OR a cartographer map to find a monolith. Answer the monolith's test correctly, then talk to it again. If you answered right, it will ask you for a gift - give it the gift and it will mark a portal.

as long as you're not in permadeath, you can grab your grave, I do understand how it's frustrating, but you don't actually need to repair it while in battle, kill the sentinels, use the drops to recharge shield, then repair your tech

as I've said, you can reduce the chance of tech damage to core systems by having more tech installed, a full or nearly full tech screen will benefit you in battle as the chance of damaging core tech is decreased

basically, if you're in an expedition you entered via primary save, and you claim the starborn runner, you'll get photonix core, which you can then copy, package the photonix core, and salvage as many times as you want on your primary save

you end the expedition with the runner, then return to main. pay nanites to dupe the ship from expedition terminal, Package the core, then scrap the ship, then go back to terminal, pay nanites, get the ship, pack the core, scrap the ship...

no, and you can do ship copying even before you finish the expedition

well, you can always return to your primary save, and you'd need to at least get to the anomaly to grab the starborn runner in the first place, but you don't need to actually complete the milestones/phases to do the ship copying
