I've learned to clean my inventories once a week/
I have a ver organized storage containers, and my rule became that once a thing has a stack (or tree, depending on the item) the rest just gets put into my "sell" ship and sold.

race items keep a stack or two in your exocrafts - you will need them for finding portals.
most of the rest, you will learn how to find it, so it's not necessary to keep much of it.

you don't, but the settlement maps can really mess you up

keep sending you back to the same settlement

I find it easier to go through a wormhole and reset the quest

or just do the quest on a starter settlement and claim a different one when I find an optimal planet

Visiting the station adds it to Teleporter Destinations list (up to last 50 Stations) so as long as you don't visit 50 more stations to drop that one from the list, you should be good. I prefer to drop a base myself and name it so I can find it easier. Make a note of the Station name otherwise if you don't want to visit all remembered to find the system.

Until you finish the purple systems quest, you can't fly a starship back to the one where you need to finish the quest if you leave. But you can teleport back either to the Station there if you visited (and there is one) or a base you claimed before you left.
