Having three-eyes that are fully functional is basically a no-go, so the eyes on the side or the one in the middle would be fake/vestigial or only serve some minor purpose, like a basic light-sensor

What's false? I have tested the stat boundaries in this game quite extensively. On an explorer with a perfect T shape SC slots and a +120% bonus with maxed out +320ly X class modules the most you can get is about 3575ly...and that's after we got the new Atlantid drive for the extra connection from it.
