Never had a real problem getting the upgrades - but understand it can be frustrating if you are in a hurry to upgrade your gear and ships. Not my thing but nice that they left it in for those who want to use a shortcut.

Between free upgrades from the guilds, derelict freighter runs and sending out frigate expeditions I am just drowning in the things. It's super ez TBH.

Except that if you skip the first one you rescue, the next (and later ones) are better and still free. If you take the first (and if it is lousy) you have to pay for later ones with just a minimal trade-in value for the first (lousy) one.

Mind you, I have on occasion had an S-class as the first one.

However, you should turn off multiplayer when doing Expeditions. Multiplayer exposes a bunch of issues with the Expedition system that can range from merely annoying to instant and unbreakable softlock

If you started the Expedition from the new save screen, you can choose to either delete it or continue (which will convert it into a Normal-difficulty save and begin the main storylines.) If you started from the Expedition Terminal in the Anomaly, ending the Expedition takes you back to the save you started it from
