AFAIU you'll have to stay on experimental until the official patch comes, at which point you'll be able to continue using the stable release. It probably only allows you to play with other people that have the experimental until that point, and the quests probably work mostly like normal

Expedition ships in general aren't much better than regular ships, they just have unique look

As for "the best" ship then any ship needs upgrades, ship with perfect innate stats will be outmatched by a ship with even mid upgareds

And with good upgrades you can make any ship very powerful so just pick something you like, no point in flying a ship you consider ugly

If you like them then sure and it's not even that much of a grind. We have a guide (type !faq-interceptor in #bot-spam and Gunter will post it for you)

They start with a lot of inventory space, decent hyperdrive range and pretty much everything you need for fuel can be found on the same planet as the ship (1 radiant shards recharges any technology to 100%)
