u place it in a barn/coop, so it will collect all of the products made by the animals living in that particular building (so they can roam fine, just dont close the door at night in case they get locked out/unless u make sure everyone's in)

Best thing to do at the start is just clear out the farm of debris.

Start with clearing stuff you can cut away with the scythe, because it takes no energy.

then cut down say...3 or 4 trees, so that you have enough wood to craft a chest to dump stuff into, since your inventory is so small.

If you're out of energy, then do sth that doesn't require it. Go talk to people, bring gifts, explore.

also, if you are out of energy early, you can eat some of the forage items for energy. Leeks and Dandelions are best right at the start in spring.

Explore the game, learn where people and things are, work on your farm via cleaning debris, clearing out areas for crop plots, etc, etc.

I clean my farm a bit and explore the map so that I'll know which houses to go and what I can pick items to sell.

Once you get level 1 or 2 in foraging(can't remember which atm), you can start to cut down trees, and use the tree seeds to make Field Snacks.

I recommend checking garbage cans for food, and using forages/low value fish for food.. You wanna save your seeds tbh, as of 1.6, I don't recommend field snacks anymore since you need a lot of seeds for something later on @bleak snow

have u levelled up at fishing yet? in the lower levels the green bar is tiny! and the green bar size increases as u level up in fishing
if you are <level 5, u can purchase the training rod for 25g at willy's shop, it has a larger fishing bar (equivalent to level 5 size), and that can help with catching them - training rod doesn't let u catch quality fish tho just a note

alternatively, you can also - build fish ponds, put whatever fish you have inside (e.g. buy from traveling cart, from trash), then when u collect fish products, u can level up fishing
this way slowly
OR use crabpots to gain fishing xp

in early game, the best way to make money is usually fishing :' )
but u can also plant potatoes too they are good for quick cash (just takes 6 days)

i would put chests in several spots, e.g. in the mines (next to the elevator), chest near the lake where i fish etc., this can help a bit
i also won't bring all of my tools out, e.g. if i know that i'll be fishing i usually will only bring hoe and fishing rod, so that saves a bit of space
