There's not really a right way to play. Explore, have fun, do things at your own pace. What I can say is that the community center is your main goal as well as your tutorial, it pushes you to explore a little bit of every area of the game

Food helps a lot. Once you get cows and make cheese, you'll never have issues with energy again

Salads from the saloon are also very good and rather cheap
