If it's not too late in the year, go with the Dx Barn so you can get pigs. Truffles are worth a lot but pigs need to go outside to dig them up for you (so they don't work in rain or, more importantly, during winter)

If this is for refined quartz, maybe stick a fire quartz into a crystalarium and smelt those to get 3 per coal. Or set up some crab pots and some recyclers; they'll catch a fair bit of trash, and broken CDs or broken glasses will recycle into refined quartz
