general answer would be when you have too many crops to water comfortably although you shouldn't plant more than you can water (in theory) but you can do without them also if you don't have the materials to craft them yet. bottom line is - they will help you out once you craft them and set them up

here's a really basic one, pass out from staying up too late cost you 10% of your money, but at 1 point it caps at 200g (iirc).
you can also pass out from overworking (using energy when you have the "exhausted" effect) so try not to work yourself out too much
