Id say the core gameplay loop is to keep upgrading your farm. Invest in more variety of income sources except crops. Animals, honey farm etc.
Have a list of long term goals

You can also get married, unlock secret notes that send you on quests to find rare items, unlock hidden areas of the game, etc

One of the first goals is to complete the community centre. Thats takes a while especially on your first playthrough. Completing this kinda makes you enter the mid-late game as several new things are unlocked once you do.
