if you close the door they will be stuck outside. Don't close the door until they're all inside. They can die if left out overnight. (They will teleport back in at/past 7pm if the door is open and you're not outdoors on your farm.)

You can close the gate to stop them from roaming around (easier to milk cows), or you can don't bother.

most players just leave the door open 24/7 throughout the year. There is zero gameplay downside except that you have to track down your cows manually to milk them... and then you get a thing that milks cows for you automatically.

Yes, but it's easier then opening and closing the the barn and coop gates all the time.

You just need to open your gate around fence once when you go in and close it when you go out.

It better this way and less work.

you can if you don't want them to get out. They can walk through open gates. But there's no significant downside to them walking around. (There is downside - you can't plant crops on a tile that an animal is sitting on iirc. So if you're doing farm work, better not to have them underfoot.)

But there aren't any downsides in the way you're thinking - wandering animals don't get lost or eat your crops or anything. They just wander, then try to go home at 7pm and teleport back if you leave their door open... even if the gates are shut.

If you have preserve jars or kegs, I recommend processing them. If not, you can save them for when you do have the machines, or you can just sell them. Processing them makes them worth more, but it isn’t like you absolutely have to or anything.

For fish, I usually sell most if not all of them, and I keep a couple of everything else. It sounds like you’re doing awesome. Don’t stress too much. It takes time to get off the ground as a farmer, but you’re doing great.
