Quality bobber is only useful if you care about catching quality fish. I really don't.
Geode crusher saves me from having to see Clint as often, so that's a bonus in and of itself.

I think that's also a reasonable argument, though I think you're undervaluing the quality bobber significantly. If you don't need the assistance of any of the other bobbers to catch the fish in the first place, quality bobber is one of the only tackle options that actually does something meaningful. Moreover, for how cheap it is to craft you can basically use it continuously.

In my eyes, the geode crusher has two main downsides:
(1) It takes one whole hour to crunch one geode. If you consider the time it takes to get to Clint's place and back (even without using the minecart system), just stockpiling the geodes and cracking them all at once is a more efficient usage of your time.
(2) It takes one coal per geode, and coal can end up in short supply depending on what else you're making. Buying coal at Clint's is obviously out of the question, since you're paying 10x the gold compared to just cracking the geode directly.

I'm usually rich pretty quickly. I use that money to save time. I load the crushers and go do something else. Buying coal from Clint spares me the time it takes to grind for it. And at a certain point you're going to need more coal to smelt ores than you'll want to fart around killing dust sprites for days on end.
Fishing is a poor man's profession. If you're fishing beyond summer of year 1 for money, I can tell one thing about you: you're poor. Hey, if you enjoy it, go ahead. But farming is where the money is at, mining is where you get resources. Fishing is where you get chump change.

Besides, the point of doing the bat quests is for the wings. The lightning rods you can make out of them are more important than the quality bobber and the geode crusher.

I think a better reason to value the bat wings would be for the butterflies. You realistically do not need more than 5-10 lightning rods, and you should have more than enough wings to make those by the time you're able to accept Clint's request.

It's a lot more than 1%. Lightning has a chance of striking every 10 minutes, and it WILL strike a LOT on a good luck days. Yeah, lucky, but that's why you need the rods, not JUST for the protection, but for the batteries. Batteries are important. Crystalariums, iridium sprinklers, all sorts of things use batteries and you want as many as you can get. Lightning rods are the way to do this.

Put it this way, when 6 of your 7 lightning rods are full, you only have a 28% chance of intercepting another lighning strike.

Keep in mind that strikes can happen every 10 minutes, and the chance of them happening is greater on good luck days.

You're not going to get them all at once, of course. I would never suggest such a thing. It's one of those things you build up to, just like so many other things, like kegs and crystalariums.
The thing about money in this game is that it snowballs, It's so hard to get at first, but the more you start making, the easier it becomes to make even more.
