Go to elevator floors in the lava levels and keep breaking rocks until you find one close to the elevator that drops geodes, REMEMBER THE SPOT. Every time you break a rock that isn’t a grey rock on that tile it will always drop a geode

Does the time of day when opening the animal doors matter for their happiness, shut at night open in the morning all that but I've read mixed opinions on closing the doors at 6/10pm

As mentioned, you don't need to close it at all. But if you do, then make sure you close it after all the animals return to their barn/coop for the evening.

If you shut them outside overnight, there's a possibility for them to go missing.
