It's not about the money you can make from the cave: it's about the gifts. Many of the fruits that the bats give you are loved gifts for villagers. Once you have the level 10 foraging profession, having those fruits be iridium quality is incredible as a birthday gift, and is better than just giving them something like a diamond (which offers no relationship bonus for quality).
