Oak trees grow all over, they are on your farm. When you chop them down you get seeds, and they also spawn seeds on the ground you can pick or axe out of the ground. Tappers are a crafted item you'll learn as you level up foraging

In the end it doesn’t matter too much.
Bats give fruits from time to time which counts as forageables which is important for some skills and the fact that it gives EXP to pick up, they will spawn randomly and will stack up over time, these are fine for CC and earlier gifts,
They are good if you don’t want to check too often.
Mushrooms will give 6 mushrooms each day but you have to go and pick them from their “containers” otherwise you miss out on them and end up getting 6 less since there won’t spawn new ones while it’s full. (It is also technically a bug that it fills them each day, in 1.4 it was every other day which it will be again in 1.6)
Mushrooms can be good early cash or energy and they can be used for life elixirs later on, they can be bothersome since you have to take care of them quite a lot if you at least want “full value”
If you want to bother checking it daily and want an easier early game then this is fine

If chop hardwood in the scret woods you also find mahogany seeds; you should always plant the mahogany seeds in a little patch in your farm (and chop the grown trees)

If you make a little mahogany tree patch, you end up with way too much hardwood

Always plant the seed if it’s between Spring 1 - Summer 20/21. (Since it then will get at least 2 harvests)
You want to prioritize putting it into the greenhouse if you have it
