You can use some wood to make coal, but not too much. Wood becomes more scarce mod/late game when you start to craft a lot of machines (kegs)

And this is why you should just eat something to replenish your energy and not waste valuable resources on the worst sprinklers. Every iron and copper bar you waste on basic sprinkers is one less you'll have for kegs later.

Why not though? They're both time saves. Instead of spending time getting 40 more floors (40-80), which a newer player is going to find significantly more tedious and difficult, you spend that time just getting more copper and Iron as well.

I disagree firmly on that. It depends on what you put your time into. For me I put 99% of my time into farming, and I got to level 6 farming by mid summer.

When it comes to new player advice, I alter it under the consideration that they're new. You can tell a new player to "Go fish for energy, Gold/Iridium chubs are really efficient", but what if they suck at fishing? That's quite common

Really, my issue is just that the advice is given under the assumption that everyone is good at the game. Despite one of the most common complaints a new player will have is energy consumption. The best thing to get early game to avoid that is sprinklers, of any kind. If all they have is up to floor 50, and the most they've planted up tot hat point is 20 crops... then so be it, Spend a day getting 10 Basic Sprinlers, and suddenly their energy woes are massively decreased.

Food is the best thing they can get, and it's much easier. Energy is not a problem after the first day of salmonberry season on Spring 15.
It's why the best advice I can give completely new players is to watch the TV every day. Because that will tell them when to get salmonberries and even spring onions earlier.

Try the other two. You'll find crop harvesting and planting to be much easier without having to zig-zag. It's why a lot of people don't like the basic sprinklers; harvesting is a headache of threading a maze of sprinklers.

Pick first is good advice - upgraded pick helps you upgrade everything else faster as well as delve mines. But the can upgrade is the time sensitive one, since it can only be done during rain.

Yes, but if you're playing the game to grow bigger and better in the first couple of years, paying for those improvements the first couple of years will probably mean you're broke most of the time. I mean, you have a lot of income POTENTIAL sitting out there, but your money is being spend just as fast as you can make it until you start making REAL money.

rainbow trout only appears in the rivers in summer, which you don't fish in in an efficient run because Ocean is better. So you don't fish in the river in summer until summer year 2, which was post-cc for me. So yes. Trout Soup is post CC.
