Yeah, Obsidian Edge can be an upgrade to what you had before. But if you can afford the 9000g, the Steel Falchion will unlock in the AG at the same time and is much faster, with a +4 speed bonus instead of the -1 that the OE has.

They can be planted in any season and will grow to maturity. They'll only bear fruit in their season. So if you have a tree with bears fruit in spring, plant it on the first day of Winter so it will be ready on Spring 1.

You can plant cheap crops at the end of fall and leave the wilted crops in the ground (I think). You can also run the quest to learn how to plant fiber crops. They grow all year round so you can plant them in the winter and harvest them in the Spring.
