Config files are generated after your run the game with the mod installed at least once
From there you can open it with any text editor like Notepad

The file will generate with default options selected. You can then type true/false for the options as the mod description specifies
you can also change the config in game if you have general mod config installed
Yea that mod is a CP pack so it's integrated with GMCM automatically
But if it was a code C# mod, the mod author would have had to do extra steps to get it to work with GMCM

Also I didn't mean to say RSV isn't good because it doesn't seasonal outfits etc, it was more a question of OCD, seeing some villagers with seasonal outfits and some without, I'm sure it's a really great mod. And what you said with its custom tiles is also exactly what I was looking for thanks !

Hey I updated a good chunk of my mods and added a few mods that add items and features and when I went to play my game suddenly all my reskin mods aren't working
The issue is my log isn't showing any issue, there's no mod I needed to update to get them to work and I have 0 idea why this is happenong
All my other mods seem to be working just fine and they're recognizing my reskin mods bc I still have the right number of mods
They just aren't working.
How do I figure this out?

Well now that we're talking about it, do you know exactly why the author doesn't recommend using a mod manager ? I'm trying Vortex this time around and looking at the file structure, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong, adding it as an external archive to the load order seem to work just fine and SMAPI seem happy enough

Where are the mods in the game folder? I want to delete them because they are a year old. It has been a year since I last played Stardew Valley. I can't find them. I am hoping deleting them will allow the game to launch and not crash.
did you overwrite the mod folder? its recommended to delete the old mod folder before downloading the new one instead

run Stardew Valley.exe through the command line so we can see the error message
is is crashing at launch or when you try to load a save?
If I can't get this to work I probably will just try and re download my mods since I don't think it would take a long time, I'd just like to avoid that if possible

That may be the Vortex foler
And not the actual mod.folder

Looks like one is installed incorrectly which may cause problems
You shouldn't have a manifest.json in your Mods folder without a sub folder.
Or make a subfolder for it
Move that random assets folder, content.json, config.json, and manifest.json (and anything else that goes to it) in that folder.
Or delete.. Whichever you prefer

I'm not exactly sure what SMAPI does when something gets weirdly installed like that.
Usually stuff just doesn't load or it will say you're using xnb mods.
I don't get an error message when I launch the game in the Command Line. I get nothing. It just launches, I see the company who made the game with their logo, and then it crashes to desktop.
That's kind of annoying but hey

ive seen that happen to someone after uninstalling SVE, but it made marlon disappear :o
they fixed it by installing make marlon real, so you could possibly do the same with make gunther real or museum expansion? 🤔

hello! i'm not sure if this is where i should post this; please redirect me if not. i'm having an issue where my game freezes on the loading page. my cursor stops, then the screen turns white and throws an error that the stardew modding API isn't loading. sometimes, i can get in, but it's very shakey. the game is also extremely slow to start, usually around 2 minutes. i'd previously had an issue where mods weren't loading because i was using the PyTK and TMXLoader files from nexus. i updated with the unofficial patches, but now i'm getting this error. i've attached a screenshot, and my SMAPI log is here: https://smapi.io/log/8fcd8afdd1604a8fa844d307cb17c79c
things i've tried:
- restarting my machine
- uninstalling and reinstalling SMAPI
- verified file integrity
i'm a bit new to mods, so apologies if it's something super obvious.

i'm only seeing the content patcher errors--i tried removing one of the content packs, but it didn't help either. very possible i'm doing it wrong, however. i'll try removing the gender neutrality mod, which is just throwing a warning.

i thought it might just be even that i was moving my cursor at all, but it just crashes to the white screen nonetheless. i've been super confused by the log coming back mostly fine. i've also selected the "wait for a response" thing, left it for about 15 minutes, to no avail. but sometimes it loads fine, so i'm just stumped.
do you perhaps have a Nvidia GPU?

i don't know if the replanter mod supports names, but if you're using the json assets version of the PPJA mods the ids aren't very stable so they would be difficult to use

It's very unlikely that SVO will return because its lead coder left the modding community. As Lemur said, you can use DSV as a replacement 😄 If you're using Portraiture, it'll allow you to use DSV's sprites but overwrite the portraits with your high-res ones

That's also highly unlikely since OrangePie has said that they don't want to edit the original DCBurger portraits and there's way too many outfits in both SVO and DSV to do high-res portraits of them all
your problem is that you're missing depedencies
Careful with Stardrop, it has issues with content packs inside the folders of other mods (like the Swim mod's content packs)

They only just recently released a Seasonal Outfits mod for Shane
That was a separate mod with a much smaller number of outfits. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's unlikely given the amount of work it would take

The way Stardrop works is by creating symlinks to the mod folders within another folder and using those symlinks to enable/disable mods. But it scans for manifest.jsons and creates a symlink for each enabled mod that has one. If you enable the parent mod, it already loads the embedded content packs. If you carelessly enable all mods, it ends up loading the embedded packs multiple times.

installing them fixes a bunch of the problems, but after that you'll need unofficial updates of tmxl map toolkit and child to npc (other mods are outdated as well, but i'm not sure if they are needed or used anymore), you can find links to them with smapi.io/mods

There are several. I use Quality Smash from nexus which includes Color Smash as a feature. You can turn flowers the same color in chests and I think your inventory too

I was wondering if someone could help me. I've decided to get Expanded Storage, but I don't know which one I'm supposed to download? Expanded Storage Lite or Expanded Storage Plus? There's really no explanation on which one does what. I also noticed there's Vanilla Expanded Storage, but it requires Expanded Storage to be installed for it to work. That also doesn't really explain what it does lol.

in the future try to upload smapi-latest or smapi-crash .txts, not pastes of console text - they have more information and are formatted to be much easier to read - but it did at least have enough information to tell the most likely problem is having the latest Nexus PyTK and not the latest PyTK in general

Go to Steam, rightclick Stardew Valley, click Properites, click Betas, make sure it says None and not Compatibility
I just followed all the steps and I'm still getting the same error message.

That would be a manifest edit I think? You have to change the version number. Though I don't remember ever having that issue.

They're not on nexus because they were done by someone who wasn't the original uploader.
They are unofficial updates, and nexus isn't a fan of people uploading those
So people share them on the forums
Open-source mods sometimes get their most recent updates on the forums, as people who don't have edit access to the Nexus mods page update them.
If it's not a framework mod you can usually ignore it. My smapi is telling me to update farmer to florist but I ain't touching the DGA version till it is fixed. 
If a code mod is broken, you can always check on smapi.io/mods to see if there's a working version or an alternative mod

I've responded to your comment, though it has left me a bit confused (in addition to this one). I'm not quite sure what you mean by embedded content packs, as I don't believe can be manifests that are in a sub-directory of a mod that has a manifest. Do you have a specific mod in mind that does this?
As for the CPU usage, which mods did you see this on? I just tested with Ridgeside (which is around 241 MB) and it installed with only around ~8% CPU usage for less than 5 seconds.

By install, you mean unpack the mods? It utilizes SharpCompress, a fairly popular library: https://github.com/adamhathcock/sharpcompress

It sounds like it may be something with your particular environment, though that is just purely a guess based on not receiving other reports on it. I mentioned in my comment that the issue should be reported to the repository (along with a log file) to investigate further.
that seems like rather unusual folder structure. smapi stops searching for mods in the subfolders when it finds a manifest file in the upper level folder, so normally you would expect that mod never to load
(the tmx-pack folder is a tmxl map toolkit content pack with the usual manifest.json file)
I've never run into smapi ignoring mods inside other mods folders
normally mods don't have other mods inside their folders, but the mods that make up the whole mod are often inside one folder
when there is a manifest file in the folder it's considered a mod by smapi (as far as i know anyway)

Those aren't being ignored by SMAPI. The swim mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/6326) is loading them via JA's API (the TMX file isn't being loaded at all from what I can see).
I'll update Stardrop to not check sub-folders that have a parent with a manifest.json to avoid the confusion you're having.

Do you happen to have a SMAPI log I could look at? I am unable to replicate unless I move the tmx-pack to the same level as the main manifest.json
As for CreateSymbolicLink, I can look into it but it is utilizing .NET 6 which would require some changes to other components. It may just be simpler to chain the junction creation into one command via CMD (rather than separate processes, as you've pointed out)

hallo ^^ I have a quick question. I have smapi and I tried to put the custom location into steam so it loads my mods, both copy pasting from the instructions of installation and manually finding the link when that didn't work. It loads the game, but when I click my save file the game just turns off. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I downloaded a mod that was suppoused to make my font change
but it refuses to load because something overwrites it
I've checked the mod and oringal font but can't figure out how to change it or fix it

This error tells you what to do Two content packs want to load the 'LooseSprites/font_bold' asset (Overgrown Flowery Interface and SlimFontReplacer). Neither will be applied. You should remove one of the content packs, or ask the authors about compatibility.
The issue is I can't find this other content pack is talks about.

personally i use crop colour combiner from nexus - instead of making crops all the same colour by default, you hit a hotkey to make them all the default colour
it also has a hotkey to make them all default quality too
combining it with autostacker and setting them to the same hotkey makes it even better

Generic Mod Config Menu is a mod that lets you edit config files while in game.
The only config file that was there is the Seasonal Buildings mod, which I adjusted to my preferences, and it's still not working.

i'm trying to link stardrop to my smapi location and its giving me "the given file isn't stardewmoddingapi.exe
once i opened up both that old mod's sprite set and the latest updated set i could easily see that mod was really out of date no wonder it was acting wonky. i made an edit just for my own private use, will see how it goes. I never actually tried mods before but I've played the game all through in vanilla and want to start some customisation 🙂 thank you again guys

Maybe consider converting it to Content Patcher. xnb mods are bad about breaking the game (and will be even more so whenever we get the next big mechanical update)

Mod managers are a thing but they tend to break mods and Stardrop is still in development and can't auto update yet.
you have to extract the mod into the mods folder for them to work. zip files wont do anything

Content Patcher is a framework that many mods utilize
Stardrop is a program to move your mods around, enable, disable, update, etc. No actual gameplay here.
hey yall! so i recently turned off my mods by deleting the launch option in steam so i could play the vanilla game with my friend, but when i put the launch code back my smapi keeps giving me this error message

you need to update smapi
note that if you use vortex it can no longer install or update smapi so you'll need to run the smapi nstaller directly, not via vortex
i just reinstalled my mods and switched to stardrop and everything is working flawlessly

Hi guys! I am trying to uninstall Smapi and I know I'm supposed to run the installer again and select uninstall but it's not giving me the options to install or uninstall
just confirm the game directory, and then it'll give you the option to uninstall
do I do that through steam? I barely know how to mod or do any of this I'm sorry

this is what happens when I try to run the installer. It won't let me type anything into it

I downloaded smapi and the mods I wanted and extracted it all and it cant tell if the mods in the game which i doubt because one of them is medieval buildings and everything looks the same

it's from your log, it should exist. If you click the top bar of your file explorer it should let you paste that path in

Hi, so I need help,
I'm trying to get the expanded mod for SV and everything downloads fine and I have everything needed for it to work but when I launch the game the title screen is super zoomed in and I can only see the top corner of the screen. Everything works normally if I uninstall SMAPI.

@wooden hull If your resolution is messed up try deleting startup_preferences This can be found on Windows at %appdata% > Stardew Valley > it's in that folder, or C:\Users\Yourwindowsnamehere\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley or for Mac can be found at ~/.config/StardewValley To get here you'll want to go to your desktop, then in the menu bar select Go -> Go to Folder...

Also if you actually can’t walk south specifically try rebinding “walk south” to a different keyboard key

Okay, so my little brother accidentally closed out of his game while in a multiplayer world with me. He had his speed set to max with CJB Cheats Menu, and now when he sets it to max, it acts as if he is at normal speed, and anything lower slows him down. Anyone got a fix

if you have a lot of mods, you can remove some. Otherwise not much besides possibly downgrading to 1.5.4(although you'll have the 32bit memory cap)

Sorry to keep bothering you, but I have one last question. Depending on the mods how much would the game be affected if I played modded on the pc, but use the same file on the xbox
if you purely used cosmetic mods like a portrait reskin or a building reskin, you should be fine
but you can't use the save if you had any mods that ADDED or CHANGED content in a tangible way
I'm not even sure if it'll let you load a modded save, the game might crash or something
