there's a "weapons only" setting in the Combat Controls config
so by default it does override tool behavior too

Got a new lil' issue. I've ran Eemies Map recolor, I love it-... However I recently got Flower Valley as well. Flower valley says they're compatible, -but-... My lovely Eemie trees are now gone, and if possible, I'd like them back. Anyone knows how to do so?
Check if there is an option to turn off flower valley's trees in the config?
Specifically the Pine/Birch tree, but the other two also appear to have returned to vanilla (If they weren't)

Hmm. Okay, both mods seem to be taking effect on both saves. The only visible difference is season being Winter vs Spring. Does the one that changes pine trees not change them during winter or something?

As I'm putting together my modpack, I'm noticing that I seem to be avoiding mods that just... "push button, thing happens". That doesn't seem all that interesting imho, whereas a mod that goes a few extra steps for... I think immersion would be the best word? It "feels" nicer.
For example, there's a mod that lets you play the arcade games anywhere. That sounded "meh" to me, but then another mod adds the arcade games as apps to the mobile phone mod and that sounded interesting
functionally, they do the same thing, but the extra step of immersion just did it for me
Mods I recommend are Shiko, Lyell, Denver, Lunna, and the Boarding House
Shiko and Lyell I had my list, but I'll check out the rest of those!
I also just found NPCs named Sorren, John, and Herbert
I guess that could be used as a reminder list but it feels like it's intended purpose is something different.

It looks like "Escape to East Scarpe" and "Walk to the Desert / Garden Village" add some new NPCs as well

I’m having an interesting issue… Winter 17 has become my own personal Groundhog Day. Every time I end the day, I’m asked to choose a Level 10 Farming profession (originally I went to the shrine to see what the Distiller profession was, but I’ve already selected a “new” profession). I’ve restarted the game AND my computer, and even went back to change a different profession to see if I’d get a different result… it’s still happening.
Has anyone else had an issue like this?

Oh I've heard of that issue! the mod that adds Distiller, sauvagon in stardew or something, has some issues in 1.4, but you can turn off the Distiller profession in the config file and that fixes the bug

I'm trying to convert .png portraits into .xnb files to use as files in game without any other third party software like smapi, using this https: //steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1709011717 and I'm wondering if the .yaml file has any significance when just editing the .png file?
Example: I want to change the portrait of Linus to a different one, so I take the original file from the game, unpack it, and I get a .png and a .yaml file. If I were to delete the png and replace it with a fan made one and keep the .yaml the same, and pack it into a .xnb again, assuming the conversion works, will there be any problems with it in game?

But nope, the .yaml doesn't change in that case so you can safely use it to repack the new image. It just has some metadata about the image type and such.

I don't want to go through the effort of using Smapi and I've heard that it has some issues with multiplayer and such? I'm just gonna hope this works fine, like using a texture pack in mc or something like that
it's more effort to use XNB replacement and SMAPI doesn't have issues with multiplayer

^ see above link--it's actually MUCH more likely to cause issues in multiplayer if you use xnb replacements
all you would need to do would be to load your pngs using a pack for the Content Patcher mod. you would only need to have Content Patcher and SMAPI itself for that mod to work and wouldn't need any other mods. you can still play with people who don't use SMAPI, they just won't see your changed portraits

If you don't have Tailor Mouse you'll have to spawn them in. Tailor Mouse also rotates stock so it might be a bit before they show up. They don't have a default vendor.
@gentle vault Experience Bars also has a hotkey to show and hide it, by default it's x. Shift+x will move the bars to wherever your mouse is
not sure how to get that working with android, but it's worth a shot

you'd want to hit 1-10 normally, like with CJB cheats, to activate the level up dialogues

Hey guys! I'm here with a quick question about editing mod files when using Vortex. Currently, most of my mods are content patcher mods.
In one of the asset folders for a mod, there is the following PNG file:
I want to replace the sprites for the bale of hay and the log section with these sprites:
If I edited the PNG files directly, would the JSON file in the mod folder be able to just update?
Assuming the mod is replacing the entire file (and not cutting and pasting smaller parts) you could just edit the image file and have it work automatically yes
Hm. See, that's what I did earlier, but for some reason the sprites weren't updating.
Or you could create your own mini-mod with this edit, and never have to worry about accidentally erasing your changes with mod updates in the future
Ah, then the mod might be targetting specific parts of the image only then

When I edit the PNG, how precise do I have to be when doing the cropping? Perhaps the reason why the edits didn't take earlier was because of a bad editing job?
Also, do I have to do anything on the Vortex side to have the mods run properly once I've edited the files?
If it was a bad editing job, then the sprites would be off center and some of it would appear on other sprites, assuming you kept the original PNG dimensions the same
And idk about vortex, not many of us use it as it's not reccmended

I was already considering just manually installing all my mods anyway
Vortex has caused me more problems than it has saved me time
I had great success using it for Dragon's Dogma modding, but haven't really had the same success with other games
You can install is using both. Though, some SDV mods require manual downloading.

Yeah, manual installation is really easy for sdv, just download/unzip
The only sdv mods that really "require" manual modding ore xnb mods, which should be avoided

Are you using subfolders in your Mods folder. Comments say it's only able to detect other mods directly inside Mods while it is also inside Mods

There is example usage linked on the page but to add it yourself would mean getting the source code of the mod and editing it.
Ah true, i forgot about automatic GMCM for CP now! All your Content Patcher mod configs, at least, should be smoothly accessible with GMCM.
That might cut down a lot of your list, depending on how many of your mods are for content patcher

Hey, so I've downloaded the mods and unzipped them to their folders and everything, but not sure whats not going right. I've also been told (was on the forum last night) that a smapi window should open when i launch the game but thats not happening either. I also can't upload my logs because the search comes up as saying can't find the specified folder

Wow the spooktober war is getting antagonistic.
Starblue is compatible and has custom maps for using SVE+SBV+IF2R, iirc. Might need to tweak a few things but it worked pretty well for me.

yeah, you'll want to open the steam app, go to library, find stardew valley on the left side and update it through that
worst case scenario i've forced updates in steam programs by Verifying the game files
they moved it from their steam account from ages ago onto the computer so its a local file
You'd need to update it through steam and then move it again; don't think steam can update it once it's been moved

Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion adds some lines for all NPCs including Alex. But there aren’t many specifically for Alex.

Banana flavoring is based on the now-extinct Gros Michel cultivar. Commerical bananas these days are all of the Cavendish variety.

Coii’s should have a Content Patcher version. You need to be using that as XNB mods directly replace the games files and are no longer recommended.
If you mean you have two hairstyle packs and one is XNB you would have to unpack the XNB file to get the png and then combine the files together in an art program.

The issue with that clothing pack you linked is it’s XNB is pre-1.4 judging by the upload date. Shirts and pants were changed with 1.4 which is why we use JA for them.

If they’re for JA they should work just fine.
Clothing has to be spawned in or purchased through Tailor Mouse if the pack is supported. Tailor Mouse has a list of packs all of which work. I did a bulk of the JA clothing conversions on Nexus some of which authors chose to not be sold at Tailor Mouse.

You could also use Get Glam to add multiple hair packs otherwise you’ll have to merge the png’s together

Looking at the base sprite sheet, the tip of the tail is included with the base farmer mod (rather than linked to hairstyle like the rest of the tail). Is it because of the clothes? How do I fix that?

Totally worth investing 5$ to play the beta version of it early
@restive gull If you want to play with mods, i would suggest trying out Stardew Valley Expanded. Its like if Stardew had gotten a big dlc with new townsfolk, places, items and so on.
If you want to do less manual labor and more automation on your farm i would recommend trying out the Automate mod.
I also like to use some quality of life mods like UI Info Suite, LookUpAnything, GiftTasteHelper, Tractor mod, npc map location and some ncie stuff like the seasonal villager outfits.
Just to name some of the mods i use.

Stardew Expanded is THE mod I check compatibility against. if it's not compatible? It's not getting considered. That's how amazing SVE is.
It will help you a lot with processing stuff and collecting from various sources like Trees, crab pots, bee hives and so on^^
The larger your farm gets the more helpful automate gets^^ You also can automate collection from garbage bins👀
