Hello! I am looking for some mod/smapi support, I have already posted in the SMAPI reddit, but was hopeful yall might have some insight as well š
I am trying to download the Ridgeside Village mod to play but it is not working. Right now i only have SMAPI and the mods needed for Ridgeside Village uploaded and every time I launch the game it wont let me get past the title screen/character creation part before my computer freezes and forces a restart or I need to manually restart. I don't know what to do. This is my second time trying to install everything, I did it last night and the same thing happened.

Back in the previous conversation I was asking which mods you were attempting to use, because one of them was an XNB mod which made your game... lose itself
Tractor and SVE are not XNB, so they wouldn't have been the cause 
oh i think bc i kinda like.. duplicate a lot of my folds and i kinda forgot which one was it and also i suck at addeding mods i wasnt sure what i did was right maybe dunno
okay so it froze just as I finished creating my person and clicked the start button, but I ctrl/alt/deleted and it pulled up the windows page to shut down/other options and when i exited out of that stardew started to load and now i am in my world.... I am going to see if it stays working or if it freezes again and I shall update you!!

then this is normal. When you load your file, the game tries to load everything in and can take a bit
Personally speaking, it takes me about a minute to load in, but my computer is beefy
I am not sure if this was a questions for me or for Stefany, but I was creating my person in a smaller window, but usually I will be full screen while actually playing the game. I hadn't gotten to that point yet.

Hello! Does anyone else using mods with a Mac have the issue where you have to reinstall SMAPI nearly once every month because it suddenly can't find the SMAPI files and won't start the game? I'm wondering if I'm messing something up. It was fine when I was playing SVE but when I started Ridgeside it started acting up. I unfortunately don't have a screenshot of the error but the terminal prompt basically says it couldn't find the SMAPI files. I use Steam to start up the game if that's important.
You'll need to reinstall smapi every time the game updates
(It did that quite a lot for a while.)
But should slow down now

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.
If your Stardew is part that version, it won't work.

okay so I did it and a couple seconds after clicking the load button my screen went black and stayed black. after 5 min, I forced a restart and then tried again and I was able to get into the world selection part, but it went black as soon as I clicked the world I wanted to play so I restarted it.
Yup - your version of Stardew isn't compatible with the android version of SMAPI, there's unlikely to be any further development of SMAPI for Android, and we can't help you revert to a previous version, see the bot post above.

right, it going black and staying black is normal while it loads, but eventually it should show up. That it's taking more than 5 minutes is... concerning with the load optimizations in 4.0 SMAPI though

super new! I just got it less than a year ago. It is a laptop though, that might be a reason? I ran expanded with multiple mods added to it easily a few months ago. I have been playing minecraft with multiple mods, a shader and a resource pack and that has been fine as well. I was hoping to try ridgeside since I had to update everything for the new update but here we are lol.

Did you download UI Info Suite from Nexus or Github? The version on Nexus is outdated, I believe.
Are you hitting the hotkey for noclip (f11, I believe?)

I download then extract the noclip file into the mods file like I did the other mods

Yeah - SMAPI won't touch zip files - You'll need to pull the noclip folder out and move it into your Mods folder, then it should work.
if you didn't unzip it, it wouldn't work

Hey guys I need help installing smapi on a Mac mini and I have downloaded the smapi launcher but it just keeps showing me this (and yes I did open the Mac file)
I'm not super familiar with MacOS, but it looks like the installer can't find the rest of the SMAPI files - did you extract the full zip or just the install on Mac

I dont entirely know how to explain this but my clock keeps skipping ahead for some reason like it was literally 7 am and i was fishing in ridgeside and suddenly its 6:30 pm and idk why its doing that Sometimes it even skips straight to 2 am and makes me pass out

Auto-grab truffles wouldn't touch time, nor would automate. CJB cheats can touch time, but A) you'd do it intentionally if you did, and B ) Pathos coded it, and Pathos created SMAPI

When you extract with built-in windows extraction, a window comes up that allows you to input a filepath
so just copy-paste C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods in for each one
Now, that said, your image looks like you're using WinRAR or something, which... bleugh

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.
That way you can do it in game
BUT we're just dealing with the problem you mentioned, so we're just gonna manually edit this config

if you get errors, but everything functions right, its probably just a problem with the mod and ignorable. check the posts/bugs pages on the mod page if you want, to see if anyone else has had the same problem

okay, so you're in the wrong user folder. your username is jake but you're trying to do stuff in tate's folder, that's why you don't have permissions
just noticed you ran su jake on top. you should exit out of that and go back to being the tate user, just clear your console and press Ctrl+D
Might also be worth checking Nexus - A bunch of recolor mods have unofficial 'companion' mods that just include the new tiles, one might already exist for whichever pack you're using.

I'd delete Joy's of efficiency from your mod list as you only need the 1.6 fork 'glory of efficiency' for it to work - and may be causing errors in the background

looks like the kind of error that is solved by updating or deleting/reinstalling the game and smapi
yep, this is a mismatch between SMAPI and Stardew Valley versions. you need either:
- Stardew Valley 1.5.6 (legacy) and SMAPI 3.18.6, or
- Stardew Valley 1.6.8 and SMAPI 4.0.8

I wanna use stuff like Wildflours and cornucopia, but I've seen a couple posts about them having redundant items. I also saw an item switcher. Just wondering if anyone knows it its better to pick one set (leaning towards wildflours cause I like the hidden groves for foraging mod) or if the switch is intuitive enough to not really be an issue with running both
#modded-stardew is better place for this type of question, for wildflour + cornucopia specifically, they have compat built in that renames their similar items

hi, i'm in need of help or advice. i just started up steam to play stardew valley on my macbook pro, but it for some reason acts weird. first it disappeared and said it stopped, then it worked and stopped again. and now steam says it's running while it's no where to be found on my running apps.

It looks like you installed SVE wrong, try re-downloading that mod
I manually downloaded the latest version of SVE in Nexus mod and extracted and pasted the files. I also did this last time and had no problems. But this time there was a problem.
I fixed it but now as soon as i click okay on my character screen the game just stops responding

When you click okay, don't touch your computer for up to five minutes. Especially don't touch the game or SMAPI

it's normal for it to take a moment to load after trying to make a new file. It's also normal that if you interrupt that process, the game will fail to respond.
I notice that you do not mention deleting the previous version first. If this is the case, did you get prompted to overwrite/replace the previous files?
Deleting the old mod before pasting the new files is highly recommended, as overwriting the previous files can cause more trouble if an old file is no longer referenced or minor changes that do not change the file size are not recognized and the file ends up skipped.

Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.

Can you remove all of your portrait packs except one and see if it happens again? Just moving the folders up to the Portraiture folder will stop them from loading and let us test things.
IE: You'll only have one folder left in Portraiture/Portraits/

No worries - I'm trying to identify whether you've found some new and creative way to break Portraiture (I jest), or if there's potentially a corrupted file that's causing it to fail when it encounters it.

Doesn't crash, as my screen goes black and I cannot do anything. She can still move, but once she enters the house, she is no longer able to exit but rather her character is able to walk outside the bounds of the house

i don't see any mods that could change the farmhouse map in your log, it's possible that your friend has one such mod and you don't though, causing a mismatch

Ah - you have two sprinkler mods fighting for control
Immersive Sprinklers and Better Sprinklers
The UI I saw above was for Better Sprinklers
i got immersive sprinklers so i could put them between tiles; can you just not do both
No - Better Sprinklers behaves like Vanilla Sprinklers, just with more controls.
Immersive is designed to fit between tiles, but it's range is +1'd when you use a pressure nozzle on the sprinkler

Yeah - I'm pretty sure that's what is happening - You place the sprinklers between tiles and it uses the immersive sprinkler settings (Including pressure nozzles to +1 the range), so it's got control no matter what the better sprinkler UI says.

Hi guys, Iāve recently [1.6 spoilers] || got a letter from Fizz. A couple days later, I decided to pay him a visit in the watery cave. Hovewer, when I got into that cave my screen went black with only my cursor visible. I couldnāt really do anything else, so I closed the game. The thing is, prior to receiving Fizzās letter I could enter the cave without any troubles. I already tried taking out all of my newer mods, in order to possibly locate the problem. It didnāt do anything really, so I checked my Smapi log. It told me that it coudnāt locate Fizzās portrait file in this route: Stardew Valley\Content\Portraits\Fizz.xnb. Is there a way to get this file back without having to reinstall the game? || :(

there's a CP version, but it looks like they downloaded the Portraiture version which you're supposed to drop inside Portraiture's folder

Then your DSV add-on wouldn't work. It's only for the standalone version.
What you can try is to move the portraits in your DSV add-on into your talko folder.

im wondering firstly are CP mods like game overrides basically and AT are optional add ons? I mod my sims all the time but im sorta new/rusty to doing it to SDV

In this case, CP is any mod that uses Content Patcher to add / edit assets into the game - Content Patcher does a lot - It allows for you to swap out portraits, swap out sprites, add new items, new crops, edit existing crops, add / edit events. It's kind of a catchall.
AT is Alternative Textures, which allow for you to switch between textures in game, I believe (I don't use it myself)
but it wont hurt my game to have both im assuming? and thank you so much
AT allows you to specify different textures for multiple items/entities of the same type, and do so on the fly. It requires a separate framework mod and I think is not as performant as CP
and yeah you can use both

No guarantees, but when you're back on, could you try disabling or removing CP Boarding House 4.0.16 - The nexus page has been hidden, and it shows up in the log when it starts making Content Patcher angry
And given that we're dealing with some kind of mapping issue, it's worth eliminating to rule things out
I ran the game without any of those mods before I came here

I think something glitched in the transition for the day
No idea why. But Iāve played this for a while and never seen it happen
Unfortunately, without the legacy farm, the greenhouse wouldnāt even show up anymore
For what it's worth, SMAPI includes Save Backup, and if you haven't saved more then one day you can revert the in-game save to the backup "previous" save
So if it is save related, there are reversion options, but I'm still concerned at how many mapping errors your log is throwing.
Since it's likely related to what's blocking you from accessing the greenhouse

trying to setup unique child talk. it said start the game to make the json file and what to edit. I've started the game twice now and can't find a config file anywhere in the folder. is it somewhere else or something or did I miss a step?

oh its skipping loading them cause it isn't generating a "manifest .json" file
if it's saying that the mod doesn't have a manifest.json file the install is probably corrupted/incorrect in some way
according to the mod page I downloaded all the required stuff and started the game once to have it make a file but the file is no where to be found

To fix this:
From the start menu, search for Graphics Settings and open it. In the window that opens, click "Browse" near the top and choose SMAPI mascot.png StardewModdingAPI.exe in your game folder (or Stardew Valley executable icon.png Stardew Valley.exe if you play without mods). In the app list, click "Options" under StardewModdingAPI (or Stardew Valley if you play without mods). Change the Graphics preference to "High performance". Save. Check whether your issues still happen.

I don't know if there's a fix for this yet, but I faintly remember a workaround is to take out the rooms mod on the day you propose to an NPC, and then put it back after you slept a day

it looks like something that hasn't been updated for 1.6 is overwriting the icons after the recolour loaded, visible by how the new icons added by 1.6 are being loaded and not overwritten. I don't have time to check your log and the mods thoroughly right now, but if you have the time, you can look at your log (the link you sent) and enable the "trace" button and then search for "cursors" in the log. cursors is the file where these icons are located, so by looking this up you'll find any mod that does something to the file in question. Granted, there'll be quite a few mods that modify this file, but not as many as your whole mod list, so you can use the results from that search to look through the mods that change this file.

hello, I play the modded game on a server and upon adding mods the game crashed. removing those mods didn't help however the game only crashes as soon as a specific player enters the server and we receive a crash report of sorts? would that be a mod issue or the server/technical issue?

as far as i know, no. the mod isn't needed any more, but mods that depend on it are broken until they update to use the vanilla methods
Direct Access: For direct console access, follow these steps:
- Open Terminal. Go to File->New Shell.
- Set directory by entering cd /Applications/Stardrop.app into the terminal shell and pressing RETURN key.
- Launch Stardrop by entering ./Contents/MacOs/Stardrop into the terminal shell and pressing RETURN. Stardrop should appear as normal.
- Launch through Stardrop as normal. The SMAPI console will take over the terminal shell used to launch Stardrop.

When I try to run smapi on least version of the game from Google play store. Smapi starts, go black and turn off.
When I try older version of the game 1. 4.5.145 and set that in installer. The game starts but I got that error from screen. Any one have any idea what can I do?

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.

sometimes it does make it to the main menu or the game, but i just updated the only mod that had to be updated and it doesnt even start up the game

Ok - Can you launch Terminal, then follow the following instructions?
Run an application inside Terminal. Instead of just opening an application normally, Terminal can host it. This is useful for debugging, as error messages and other console outputs will appear in that Terminal window. Here's how to do this:
Locate the application in Finder. Right-click the application and select "Show Package Contents." Locate the executable file. Typically, this is in Contents ā MacOS, and has the same name as the application. Drag that file onto your blank Terminal command line. Hit Enter to launch that program. Leave your Terminal window open while you use the application. Quit the application to return to regular Terminal operations.
i did notice while changing the mod folder that there are wayyy more files btw
I'm hoping that it'll generate a useful error message in Terminal if we launch it this way. And there should be more files then standard Stardew Valley, SMAPI installs itself in the same folder.

It could be that it doesn't work that way with SMAPI, the limitations of my experience with MacOS is "Well, this is a frustrating thing to try and fix"
i totally get it, my boyfriend tried to help too but he said computer people hate mac when it comes to fixing things

Well that's weird. Can you poke around for a bit on a new save with no mods, see if you can get it to crash?
If it doesn't crash in like 5 minutes, then I'd go ahead and stop - But that's confusing that it's so inconsistent.

Yup - Segmentation Fault again - That implies some kind of memory access issue.
what does that mean?
It tried to access memory it wasn't supposed to - it's kind of a catchall error.
Next we proceed to the obvious (That I probably should have asked earlier) - Have you rebooted the computer since you started getting the SMAPI crashes?
Edit: Logo probably has more of an idea of what's going on then I do at this point.
i use a switch controller with a cable and a thing that changes the thingy cause macbook doesnt have usb

Yes. But before you do that, youāll need to clear out your Steam configs and reboot your computer.

I spent months dealing with controller issues, and the only one that works for me is PS5.

I just found a reddit post about SMAPI Stardew crashing with the Switch Joycons - no solution found though
i mean i'm down to buy a new one, but i would need to make sure it does work since i dont have ps5 or xbox (xbox has worked in the past )
So I used an 8BitDo for ages, and then it randomly decided to cause segfaults. I donāt own a PS5 but I have a controller, lol
I've never had a good time trying to teach MacOS about new drivers (So many fights with USB to Ethernet adapters), so that's not surprising.
And actually I guess that leads to another question - @gaunt idol Have you had the game crash at all when you didn't have a controller plugged in?
no it worked fine when i just tested it, untill it didnt. i can try again tho
Let's go ahead and have you rename your Mods folder so your mods are back in place, then try without even having the controller plugged in - If it doesn't crash, then we know what the problem is. (Delete the empty Mods folder, then rename the original one with your mods back to Mods)
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/config
You want to clear the config.vdf file
Then what youāll need to do is go into ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
And there should be a folder there titled āSteam Controller Configsā
There should be another folder inside there thatās a string of numbers. Click on it, then click on the āconfigā folder inside it.
Finally you should have a list of settings, including a folder titled 413150. Thatās the SDV app
Go into that folder and delete anything thatās not ācontroller_genericā
Click command+spacebar and in the search field, input ~Library/Application Support/Steam
