There are some instances where you will need to use the compatibility version of the game. Please be aware that SMAPI/game mods are not compatible with this version.
On Steam: In your library, right-click Stardew Valley and select Properties... > Betas > then "compatibility" under the dropdown.
On GOG: From the game's page, click the settings icon > Manage installation > Configure... > then "compatibility" under the Beta channels dropdown.

It has to do with the save data change in 1.6 I believe.
If you cant boot vanilla, then you use legacy. Compatibility removes the .dll
But if i go into normal, then it wont let me play because it will say that its already running

Fievel isn't an issue, Sen is. Re-download Sen in LitD for both computers and just type killnpc SenS into the Smapi console itself and then delete it if you donāt want to keep him. (As a Sen stan, please no.)

Hello. Not sure if anyone would know what the issue is, but for some reason the occult clothes from Ridgeside Village are showing as vanilla shirts when I put them on. https://smapi.io/log/0c1603802e354b6dbfc781d7df26e8a0 This is the error log, but I realized that the warning message at the end showed up right as I loaded into my save, not after I put the clothes on. I finished the "The Preparations!" quest the day before, if that helps.

Random, not super important mod question but, discord rich presence never seems to work for me. My activity just shows "Stardew Valley" with the ? square next to it. Even if I F5 refresh the config.

if you have two profiles on your computer, it'll mess it up tho

!recolors looks like some non-updated textures or a mod conflict
1.6 added new tiles which will take some time for recolor mods to catch up on. recolors will mostly work but there will be some vanilla-looking tiles. please be patient as you wait for mod authors to update their mods

Are you sure you're not clicking inside the folder? Those are supposed to be there

Alright, well, there's a manifest there, so if all else fails, you can MAKE a folder for the mod and move the files into it. You need a folder as a buffer between Mods and the mod's files.

It's supposed to look like that downloaded, Coffee. Rars are. But most mods compatible with 1.6 aren't Rar files.

The reason I asked what extractor was being used is that sometimes there's a setting that gets overzealous with unzipping that unzips all enclosed folders, which is not what you want here

yeah so it says its gonna ignore the mod files directly in the mods folder, so i just make a folder inside my mod folder, name it whatever, and put those files in it?
So, what you're doing is making what's called a mod subfolder. It will be a folder ONLY with that individual mod's files in it. Most mods come with the subfolder already in it, but since yours is missing, yes, just go ahead and make a folder within your Mods folder, name it something you'll recognize as that mod (Masahi, for example), and move all the files/folders from the extracted mod into it.

this is a bit of a weird one, but does anybody know which tilesheets/assets would be affecting the cliffs and/or the icons for crops?
i think i screwed up the crops one by trying to only one specific springobjects to show up š

Okay, so those are telling you that you're missing more subfolders in the mod (assets, images, data, dialogues, etc.) and SMAPI is looking for them in those locations and not finding it, because the folders aren't there. You're gonna need to make those folders too so that the paths match up, Coffee
The File Contains shows what the folder structure should look like, rearrange your files (and make new folders where necessary) so it matches up.
Something in your mod's rar extractor is tossing out the folders and only leaving the individual files, so this is a weird situation

You are apparently missing files in your mod, it's looking for an image at those paths and can't find them.

Chance, it looks like SVE is missing files at first glance, are you on the most recent version of Stardew Valley Expanded, and did you delete the old Stardew Valley Expanded folder before adding the new one?

Vortex likely uses its own folder structure to be able to read the files when they're scattered like that.
i did! the only thing that should be missing are portraits which i replaced with baechu's portraits

All of these are out of date and not ready for 1.6 aside from expanded preconditions utility which has an alpha that works in the optional files of the mod page @patent badge
Instead of custom kisses download Polysweet if you want it to be a quick and easy replacement for Free Love, custom kissing and Spouse rooms You can delete Custom Spouse Rooms if you do that.

Alright, just so nobody's worried about it, I got Coffeexyz's issue with the Masahi mod resolved over DMs. All's good now.
It was an extraction path issue.
I started a new save last night. I ditched a few mods that I thought might be causing this issue, but nope, it's still there.
I pop a slime egg in the incubator... wait.... and the same egg comes back to me instead of a new slime 
I tried to look through the smapi log but I have no idea what I'm looking for and this all says it's error-free.

Looks like an old asset texture replacement mod was used and is missing.
Yes, you just set the priority for mini bin as far as possible in config and ensure it is at the end of the chain. But the fruit that arenāt shoved into it will always be added

I'm using the Rolling Hills farm, and it looks like there's a problem with the cave for bats/mushrooms. Apparently some tiles are reordered? I took a look at the cave map in Tiled, and it's all messed up. There's some stuff straight up missing. I can't even find the files that it's asking for. I've looked through both the map itself and DaisyNiko tilesheets. Is there a fix for this, or should I go over to making-mods-general to ask how to work with Tiled? Rolling Hills is my favorite map, and I'd love for it to work.

Rolling Hills farm has had problems before where installing it after you start a game has led to some visual errors
if you don't open the .tmx in the same folder where the tilesheets are in you'll have to tell tiled where to find them

Hi, everyone! I'm experiencing some issues trying to get multiplayer to work. This started just the other night, my fiance and I were trying to play, but SMAPI would crash whenever he entered town. I tried to run it last night and get him to reconnect so I could post our error logs, but now I'm getting the message shown in the attached image. This usually means that the path is input wrong in the steam properties page, but I have ensured its correct, copying the direct path from the .exe file location. I'm really not sure what's going on.... Can anyone help?

xnbhack only gets you the image files, you still have to do the tiled part
I've used Tiled once before to make a tiny edit (also to Rolling Hills lol) but the whole adding and replacing thing seems a bit complicated. I think I can do it, though. Just gonna use a lot of backups just in case.

sort of- I started the save on Magic Farm, but I found another map I wanted to switch to (Sunflower Acres) so I made some edits to SA's map in tiled, then renamed it to MagicFarm and put in Lnh's folder so that it'd replace my farm when I booted it up. I also tried it on two other saves (a test save that I started on the edited SA map, and another pre-1.6 save that was initially on another standard-farm replacement map) and both of those work fine- it's literally just this one has that little patch of dirt

The build number itself is legit, the fact they are online and capable of downloading Smapi version 4.0.3, which was released after 1.6.3. Is the red flag because all online stores auto update. Hence the caveat about the non-steam game

hello! i quite literally just joined the server but I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a techinical issue? SMAPI is only loading about 30 of my mods and running SV with them however I've got quite a bit more than that in the correct folders! I use Steam and the launch code all looks correct. BFAV is a dead framework, you need to download Content Patcher conversions of those mods if you still want the animals
-delete excess folders of Juliet and Jessie
-delete Rodney, get the Nexus version that is up to date for a fresh install, make sure you have the dependencies
Delete A circle of thorns, replace it with the combo pack on Nexus (A circle of thorns + Never Ending Adventure) or the version in our East Scarp discord called Swords and Sorcery

the log says it can't load the sunflower acres mod at all because it's missing the tmx, the magic farm also says it can't be loaded because it's missing some asset sheets. I tried reverting all the changes I just made but now it's broken even with just the magic farm file lol

So first open up the Morris Redeemed folder. There should be some files like content.json, manifest.json, and config.json. do you see them?

1.6 got rid of a lot of dependecies so theres less stuff you need. You dont have anything to overwrite then, so you get weird mixtures of both OLD & NEW mod files mixed up all together

Folder 2 has picture 1,2,3
moving pictures from Folder 1 to folder 2 would overwrite picture 1, picture 2, leave old picture 3

So this mod actually hasn't worked since January 2021, and is what I meant by custom farms from before March 19th of this year

I've been hosting a farm on the 1.6.3 on multiplayer LAN, and I have been having errors making the game unplayable for the second player. They can join the game by inputting my IP address and successfully joining the game session, but then soon after they cannot interact with chests and see updates of my (host player's) farmer or any of my interactions on the farm. My screen shows the second player's movements seemingly without issues.

I have had no issues with them for a few in-game days but I have since had the multiplayer connection errors, I've since moved the mods into a .disabledmods folder within the mod folder itself to see if this would help the issues. I tried to only use mods that would be safe to use in multiplayer as my second player is playing vanilla without any mods.
This is my SMAPI log (this was captured after I had moved the above mods into the different folder). I am guessing it's an issue with the save file, but I don't know if this would have any connection to the multiplayer issue

modded multiplayer is a whole new beast now. I highly recommend against mix and matching now

So, this is going to sound very weird. But, your game was not failing to load. It was just taking its time. By crash, do you mean it whited out and said not responding?
Player two had no mods, from what I understood the mods I had should be multiplayer compatible if only the host had them but it would make sense if that has changed with the update
I got it now, the other player was playing vanilla while they ran modded (I thought it was more like they only ever played vanilla)
no, the game shut down. the screen went black as usual when transitioning locations then froze and then the game closed out on its own
There are zero conflicts regarding the map data either-just several expansions editing data.

The save is opening with no problems for me, I am still getting the disconnect error from the second player is the issue. I've launched Stardew from the .exe in the game folder rather than the SMAPI .exe too in hopes that the vanilla launch would work but I might be mistaken there
Can you go match mods with all players and try again?
The reason I ask is you might have a throttler that auto-closes programs because the game itself didn't shut down-your computer shut it off, at least the way the game reads it.

The 'joining' still works correctly, it shows that they have joined the session but the lag (I think lag best describes it) makes it unplayable for player 2

Reset Terrain Features (https://smapi.io/mods/#Reset_Terrain_Features) is a mod that lets you reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map using an in-game menu. That's especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will otherwise use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits).

There are a few replacements for the farm mod you're using, but you need to swap to Grandpa's farm or Immersive Farm 2 (BTW, you shouldn't have both of those installed. That or two farm mods that change the same farm at the same time.)

That's right, the error also seems to be gone if I delete the .disabledmods folder too
would those settings be in the SMAPI configs or somewhere else. I can't find AMD settings anywhere, I don't have an AMD control panel anywhere

hi! I downloaded the urban outfitters + sleeves mod but i cant make it work š¦ I do see the menu to change the outfit but the arrows dont do anything and my character looks like in the image. Anyone knows how to make it work?
Also a friend joined in coop and they donāt have the mod installed but I do see their character using the sleeves

Content patcher being a lot more powerful. He can do things it used to take 3-4 mods to do now.
That's why so much changed!

Can I ask if the Slime Incubator is bugged at all? I have had this issue for several days - started a new save with several mods deleted, but the slime incubator is still not working for me - it just works for a while and then gives me the egg back.

I cant seem to get daisynikos recolor to work? I've redownloaded the updated file, I was previously using a reShade and have since deleted the entire game famile and redownloaded everything, however the recolor still isnt being applied
For context, that's SMAPI's message shown when the Steam SDK fails with the error "Error connecting to Steam" and details "Steamworks is not initialized". It's not necessarily related to the launch options path, though that's the usual reason.
Did you install SMAPI using Vortex, or did you run the SMAPI installer directly?

How many slimes have you spawned? There's a limit of how many can be in a hutch at a time. Nothing I see would touch it.
!recolor is perfectly normal
1.6 added new tiles which will take some time for recolor mods to catch up on. recolors will mostly work but there will be some vanilla-looking tiles. please be patient as you wait for mod authors to update their mods
What you're seeing is vanilla tiles that were added in 1.6 that haven't been recolored yet
i had this same issue; some older recolors dont have the needed tiles and dont work anymore

I think slime incubators might be bugged in vanilla 1.6. The slime will hatch if you leave the slime egg in the incubator overnight, but it'll currently finish mid-day and let you get the egg back. I've been meaning to check if it happens in pure vanilla though.
None at all, it's a brand new save, new slime hutch and Marlon's green egg.
On my last save, I used Monster Spawn to spawn 2 females, 1 male - they were 'trying' to breed, but no babies for 4 days and the incubator was just spitting the eggs back at me.
