you should just execute whatever Linux's version of install is. I forget, atra would know better than me since they use Linux
I suspect you just point it at StardewModdingAPI
to be honest, on Linux I launch SMAPI from the command line most of the time, unless I'm playing multiplayer
(since it's faster for me to type j Stardew in any terminal I have open over having to open steam)
right click the game on steam, select something like "navigate to game folder" (it's something like that?)
and then when you're there, just double click the "StardewModdingAPI"

Did you run the installer? If not, do that first.
If running the installer gives you problems, try a recursive chmod +x in the installer folder

To be honest I don’t know anything about how to do that, I just rename my mods folders to swap them around. It’s possible that technique doesn’t work on linux for whatever reason, or it might need some odd workaround

You can just take all the mods out of the mods folder
If you want to not play modded anymore for a long time you can uninstall SMAPI

I’m not really sure how to do that on linux personally and I suspect that basically no one here knows either since there aren’t that many users on linux. I recommend trying things until something works if that’s your preference.
(I've never tried adding a game to Steam manually and frankly prefer to keep Steam off; I usually launch the game via the command line UNLESS I'm playing multiplayer)
I play on steam deck and I unintentionally am able to play modded or vanilla. You just have to use proton compatibility mode instead of the linux version. Then Stardew will load as Vanilla in steam and you have to add SMAPI as a non-steam game and run that when you wanna play modded. Not sure how it works on linux off of the steam deck though because I've never used it outside of it ><
What is proton compatibility mode?
in steam when you go to a game's properties there is an option for compatibility
In some rare cases, you may need to use the compatibility branch in order to play Stardew Valley, but SMAPI does not run with the compatibility branch. As a general note on steam deck: linux is not a plug and play operating system in the same way that windows is. Most linux users can be reasonably expect to be comfortable using the command line, so many linux guides are written with this kind of user in mind.
I highly recommend spending some time reading up on linux and some of its quirks
The specific distro used on a steam deck is arch linux
I am working on adding fairy mods to the game and am running into some issues and forget what someone had recommended to me to do to provide to them; that said information could help in solving my issues.

overgrown farm rearranger requires farm rearraganger, which you don't have. and the overgrown fairy tractor garage is ignorable, it's just an error because it includes the original tractor garage png inside
You can move the "original" folder out and it will stop showing that error

- get rid of the fairy mod
- get farm rearranger
- move "original file" folder inside overgrown fairy tractor garage, outside of your mods folder - it's just a backup

it doesn't say anything about the actual Overgrown Fairy tractor garage, but just in case - the file inside that mod is meant to replace the file inside the tractor mod's folder
So you can actually just move the whole "Overgrown Fairy Tractor Garage" folder out of your mods folder after you've done that

No, no. Let me explain in simpler terms. OF Tractor garage has a garage.png. You have to move that inside the TractorMod folder. The 'original file' folder is a backup of the garage.png inside the TractorMod folder. You can keep it out of your mods folder, or delete the whole OF tractor garage folder if you want to

if you suddenly want it to not be fairy for some reason you could save that somewhere and then replace the cute one with the default

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.

Ah okay, so the issue is because you have Marlon's portraits turned off in Ranch Expansion. If you're not using another mod that edits them besides DSV, you should keep that turned on

I'm having an issue with mods not working in my game. I have looked at all the guides to troubleshooting but I can't seem to figure out what to do. I'm not getting any error message, they just aren't working in the game. They are all compatible with the game and I have updated them, uninstalled, reinstalled them. The only thing I haven't done is uninstall and reinstall the game. I know I can copy/paste my saves elsewhere and paste them into a new folder if I do that, I'm just afraid that by some sheer bad luck it won't work.

Yeah that looks like a deployment issue too
Check your mods via Vortex are going to D:\Programs\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods after you've reinstalled
Sometimes Undeploy and redeploy helps

I am curious if there is any interference with the mods; timespeed, save any where, shop anywhere and Pause Time in Multiplayer; that anyone is aware of? With my other save file; I use all 4 of these and if i use the hot keys to open the shop anywhere mod or the hot keys to pause time. It stays paused permanently. No matter if I use the other hot keys to speed up or unpause the game.
Just curious if anyone has information without me needing to apply these mods currently to provide information to see what's going on.

I think that would be the best, although the no error folder is kind of concerning. You should be getting a log even if you have no errors

SpriteMaster (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4922) is a mod that resamples the game's graphics to be smoother and improves performance.
You can disable resampling in the config if you don't like the graphics changes

For a .zip file, just right-click (or long-press on Android) it and choose the option like extract or uncompress. For .rar and .7z, you need to install third-party software first, like 7-zip https://7-zip.org/ on Windows (get the x64 version), Keka https://keka.io/ on macOS, PeaZip https://peazip.github.io/ on Linux, or ZArchiver https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver on Android.

actually i think i did it but there is in fact a bunch of files that have the zipped icon, idk if those are supposed to be there still or not
i looked it up and it said to extract them so i did that, now there’s a bunch of extra files i don’t know the use behind

so that's gonna break. yeet one.
Second, yeah the zips don't get deleted
it's fine to leave them there if you want but you should remove them from mods folder once extracted

You can reinstall SMAPI. You won't lose your mods

To get mods working, you needed to install SMAPI, but it seems like you created the mods folder manually and not SMAPI
So just go through the installation process for SMAPI again and it should create the correct folder
You can keep the mods in the folder, the installer won't delete them

fixing that's going to be a pain. The simplest way? Delete everything in your Stardew folder, then verify your game files on Steam, then install SMAPI

If a speck of Stardew exists before you verify files, you did it wrong. Your saves are not included in that, those are in appdata and safe from the purge.
But you have to purge everything in your steam stardew folder.
You can probably copy the mods out if you want to save them for later
Move out your mods of the mod folder onto your desktop or something, then uninstall stardew via steam, then go into your steam games folder and manually delete the stardewfolder thats still left, then reinstall the game via steam again
hmm maybe there's more settings from the mainscreen. if you sleep, go to main screen and check the aerocore config again, is there anything different?
Nah, too many extra steps. Just wipe everything instantly with a delete

I have SVE; Ridgeside and East Scarpe and imma be 100% honest, they all work perfectly in tandem not only with each other but the game itself, they feel like official dlcs

so if you can revert a day, you can go fix it
go find your saves, remove the current ones and rename the _old to not have them - the link has more instructions

It breaks when I get close to it. I actually slept a day to see if it would un break it self can you revert it a couple days?
you'd need a SMAPI backup in the saves backup folder
and that may put you back more days than you want

When did the game stop responding?
it started doing it when I added the mods for expanded into my mod file
well exactly i made a folder for the expanded mods and then put it in my mods file
and now it stops respoding whenever I go to create a new character
Oh just wait after you click ok when making character and do nothing while the game load. Depends of your pc hardware, it could take time to load so be patient

When two mods both edit dialogue or images, whichever mod loads last "wins" and is the one you see in the game. In order to change the load order of mods, you can add false dependencies, see here for details: https://stardewmodding.miraheze.org/wiki/Tutorial:_How_to_Add_a_False_Dependency_for_Load_Orders
Even if you change the loadorder, you'll still see the original if the RomRas uses the new portraits

it's something in their setup with it that's not working properly with portraiture. Troubleshoot with them on your exact setup for it if it's working for you and not them
Sadly I don't know portraiture too well outside of reading its breakage in here (and parsing what it means). The error you've shown is unrelated to your problem.
If it's fine for you, then have your friend check it's the exact same on their end setup wise.
Should i just make portraiture load after RomRas? Who's is only changing sprites doe and portraiture is the one who have the portrait, but for mine is fine. Ill try giving my pack again then. Thank you sm for the help

!rtf yes, but you may have to use rtf to get rid of some odd bushes/tress in weird places

That's especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will otherwise use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits).

you'll have to use the mod to get rid of some trees and bushes, and generate them again so they'll spawn in the right place. the key the mod uses is L iirc and it should bring up a menu with options
Hi, im suddenly havin trouble even loading the game unfortunately ;;
It was working fine last night and there arent any actual errors in the smapi log, so i dont know whats wrong with it ;;
It kind of just gets to starting up the hd portraits mod and then stops

you don't need to clear all locations. go to the bus stop, open the menu, clear and then generate
clear all that

you'll only need to select trees and bushes
and don't select reset all location, because that will make it happen in all locations
