you can plant tree seeds outside of your farm. When I need wood I normally plant some trees around the mountain and train station area

you could chop some, put some pathways and maybe some buildings or make a park with decor, but having a small forest for renewable wood is very recommended

if it's just for wood, I recommend going with Pine trees, because they grow the fastest

but plant tree seeds at night because when npcs walk over them they pop out, you need those seeds to advance 2nd stage that way npcs will just avoid them and some get destroyed

if you put wood fences on top of the grass, it can't be eaten by animals and it can spread every night, feeding the animals every day. You will still need hay for winter though

if you have enough space, you can even make two closed areas with grass and switch between those. That way you can give the grass enough time to regrow. Kinda like I did here:

Yeah if you have your buildings more or less where you like them, putting paths down will start really defining your farm layout.

personally I prefer the stable on the left of the house since it seems to have been made to dovetail in that position. That's just personal preference, tho.
