Only because since it's a level up recipe, I'd expect that a pre-1.4 save file updated to 1.4 would just automatically have the recipe added, but you wouldn't get a notification for it or anything.

Possibly through steam cloud, but very unreliable. Best bet is recovering it from recycle bin (though if you deleted it through the game interface, it won't be there). Taking precautions with regular backups yourself is advisable; if you use mods, SMAPI comes bundled with a save backup utility.

Hello! I downloaded the original game on my PC few months ago and I can't join/host any game, even if people send me the invite on steam, the game opens and still doesn't work. I tried doing the firewall thing, and still couldn't do anything... It looks like the game is in a different version, but it has everything except for multiplayer stuff. When I host a farm the place where the code should be there's nothing, and when I try to join a game I can only do it by LAN/IP, and it still don't work...

go into steam, right click SDV, click properties, updates, set to "always keep up to date", click local files, then click "verify local files"

you could also install smapi to see what the version is of the game you have installed, see that way

hey there, i started playing stardew valley again after not playing since march, just got into the stardew mood, but i've been encountering some issues that i didn't encounter back then

when i open up the game and load my file, sometimes the text chat will open itself without me doing anything, and when i close it via /exit, sometimes it will reopen itself

also, my character sometimes moves and uses items/tools on their own without my input or me doing anything

and if i manage to stop the random movement/actions somehow, when walking around my character may automatically interact with objects as if i was clicking on them, but again no input from me on doing this

any ideas/suggestions for how to try to fix this? i am playing vanilla SV and have no mods installed, have verified my game cache with no issues, and uninstalled/reinstalled to no avail

hmm, that sounds to me like it could be an issue with your keyboard/mouse? a stuck T key could account for the text chat thing, W/A/S/D/X/C for the rest

it may also be that the game window is taking input when you're tabbed out, which is a known issue i think--not sure why it's getting "stuck" if that's the case though. if you're tabbed out and type something, pressing those keys might be triggering your farmer to move around

Yeah. Sometimes people have Stardew open behind an active window and accidentally have clicks register. Worst case scenario you can delete your savefiles that way if you're not careful

Always minimize, don't trust alt-tab

It happened in winter and I don't think there are thunderstorms in winter? I left for the desert in the midday with nice weather, mined, came back in the night with nice weather, and they were gone. I am using Android.

Not due to smapi itself I don't think, but any mods you were using will break it when missing if they added objects and such things

@scarlet jasper lightning doesn't destroy machines. It could possibly have been debris/weeds spreading on your farm. If you don't clear stones, logs, and weeds that are near your crops or placed objects, they can spread and destroy things.
If it wasn't that, then it must have been some sort of glitch.

actually, if you happen to have something like gimp, you could use the colour picker and play around with the colours, since the colours are HSV values

though there isnt a defined tool that shows how they look in game, just the colour sliders and the hex value of the colour

just a little update on my clicking/moving issues, i think much of it just stems from clicking out of the game window (even with the inventory opened)

i haven't gotten the text chat opening itself issue again, so i guess it may stem from alt-tabbing? which i haven't done since it was brought up that alt-tabbing gives issues

but in regards to the auto movement/clicking, i think doubletapping the keys for direction(s) that your character is moving generally fixes itself

similarly, with the autoclicking issue, i just doubletap C and X since they're the keys for using/interacting with items/objects

and sometimes when these issues come up, the esc button doesn't bring up the inventory (forgot to mention that initially i think), but typing /exit in text chat fixes

hope it's okay to give updates/quick fixes on issues in this channel, and hope this helps anyone else who might have similar issues

Got a bug report. This may already be fixed for 1.5 though.

When you place incubators at the bottom of the hutch, the slimes that hatch are stuck below them. In the wall basically.

Incubators can be removed and slimes jump, but never get unstuck from those tiles. They can be killed.

Way around this is obviously not to place any incubators on the lowest row, but in this screenshot's case it's a waste of 5 slimes.

hello... Im in the 1.year and dont know how to feed my baby chicken... I do have a Silo and I do feed it daily with some hay.... ( i put hay in the hopper) he always is grumpy or "looks a bit thin"

This is a good question for #stardew-valley - but in short, you need to take hay out of the hopper and place it on the feeding bench where the chicken can reach it each day.

Um there is a duplication glitch and I'm pretty sure everyone knows it at this point
Where you fill your inventory and have one item in a chest then you attempt to grab the item and then press and hold on the organization button on the chest a good way to fix this is just to not let the item hover the way it does and to just let it sit there until u place an item in the chest or to get rid of it then pick up the item

It tends to happen at random intervals, when I'm performing an action (fish, mine, eat), and also rarely happens when the day ends

Hmm. The host not crashing makes sense, since the out of memory causes the data from her end to stop making it to you, hence the crash, but these can be super hard to diagnose

What anti virus do you have, anything else running like GeForce, Afterburner, etc?

yes i have geforce running with nvidia shadowplay's instant replay enabled

does that lead to out of memory issues? because i dont think i have that happening to me on games that require more memory

The problem is stuff like that intercepts the engine the game is built on, trying to capture or optimize, whatever. And XNA can't handle that, so boom, crash

XNA is a very very old game engine at this point, it was not designed to handle stuff like this

so if this ever happens again, renaming the _old files is probably the first thing to try if you don't mind losing progress! if you're worried about losing a bunch of work to a crash, you can keep playing with SMAPI so your saves get backed up (you don't have to install any other mods if you don't want to, it will still work the same as the original game)

Yeah :( if she deleted it through the app interface there won't be a copy in recycling bin or anything. Unless she previously made backups of her own (or used SMAPI/mods with the bundled save backup tool), she's out of luck.

One way I like to keep periodic backups is with the upload.farm website. You can track your progress in a fun way there, and it leaves a re-downloadable backup in case you ever lose your save file.

Hello, today I played on a co-op save until day 9 of spring, then my girlfriend bought the game and joined the world. On day 9 we were able to play as normal (sleep/save/etc). Then on day 10 we kept crashing when we tried to sleep, I have tried all the usual workarounds, dump my inventory in a chest, not adopt the dog, adopt the dog, dont harvest anything, just go straight back to sleep as soon as i wake up, and also to play the save by myself to try and get through that day, that didn't work either.

I have no error logs to provide as they are both 0kb, as in, the files are there but they are completely blank.
