Hey guys! You might be aware of some silly commands that Governor has of villagers, like !abigail and !krobus, where it's a picture of a hand touching a computer screen with a portrait of the NPC. This was something from waaaaaaaay in the early days of the server, and over time unfortunately the imgur links for about half of them stopped working and because it was so long ago, we don't really have the images anymore.

We welcome you guys sending in the same kind of pictures of any adult NPC in the same format to keep the old meme goin'!

Some guidelines:

  • Vanilla NPCs only pls!
  • Photoshop the images similarly so it is consistent (will provide example and background below)
  • Only do one NPC so others get a chance to do theirs too
  • You can send in updated pics of working NPC commands, but the original poster can choose whether they want it to be replaced or not (just reach out to us if you're one of the original posters, we can tell lol)

So for like... the past... checks a while, our Leah bot (who posts Stardew-related artwork in #art-gallery ) has been down, and for longer than that she's had some issues, and our system made it a lot harder to go through all the great art you guys post!

I am very pleased to announced that Leah-- er, "Leah" is back and is watching your art again! We have some reports that the Discord server for the SVE mod was hacked. We don't have anything to do with the running of that server but want to let you know that we are aware and if you are a member of that server, please don't click any links there until they resolve it.

We have more info about the hack that took over the SVE mod's Discord server. We feel this new attack is severe enough that it's worth a quick update.

How the hack works

The attackers trick you into running an executable (currently disguised as a game demo). This will find saved passwords, cookies, tokens, etc and send them to the attackers. The attackers may have access to services you're currently logged in to, including Discord, even if you have two-factor authentication enabled. They may then use your accounts to attack your contacts, and possibly extort you into paying to regain access.

How to protect yourself
  1. Don't download and run unexpected files, even from someone you trust (since their account might have been compromised).
  2. Enable two-factor authentication on everything possible. The attackers can sometimes bypass 2FA if you're already logged in, but this protects accounts from being compromised if they only have the password.
  3. Don't save passwords in your browser. Use a password manager which encrypts them.

If you already ran the download:

  1. You're in a bad position.
  2. Consider reformatting your computer to remove any traces of the software.
  3. Change every password you previously saved.
  4. If a site has an option to log out previous sessions, use it.
  5. Monitor your accounts for the next month or so until any active sessions have expired.
What about the SVE server?

The old server is permanently lost and can't be recovered. If you're in that server, leave it ASAP. The SVE team is setting up a new server; you can check their Twitter account for the new link.

Could the same thing happen to the Stardew Valley Discord?

Hopefully not. We constantly keep up with the latest security threats and best practices, but security is a constant race. Always be careful and be suspicious — if we suddenly offer free Nitro or a game demo if you run a little executable file, think carefully about the risks.

Hi everyone, I want to announce a few (mostly minor) changes to server #old-rules:

  • We've updated rule 3 with a couple sites that can be used to source artwork. As a reminder, any artwork you share on the server that isn't yours needs to include a source link!

  • We've updated rule 9 to clarify that threatening to DOX someone (even if meant as a joke) will result in a ban.

  • Under the What to avoid section of #old-rules, "Making generalizations about countries or other groups" has been added.

  • We've clarified that servers must have at least 100 members and be 3 months old before they can apply for partnership with this server. #old-welcome has been updated to reflect this.

We want to discuss the importance of reporting things here on the server. While all of us admins do our best to watch the server when we can, we're a team of volunteers, and it's simply not possible for us to have an eye on every channel at all times. Just yesterday, over 25,000 messages were sent on this server!

Because we can't catch everything ourselves, we really rely on all of you to report things! If you see anything that you believe breaks the #old-rules or makes you feel uncomfortable, please report it by sending a message to @strange ruin, our modmail bot. We encourage you to contact us about messages you see on the server, or in DMs if the person messaging you is also in this server.

Some important things to keep in mind about reporting:

  • Please include as much detail as possible, a link to or screenshot of the message(s) you're reporting are ideal.
  • If anyone is making you feel uncomfortable, we encourage you to block them (as well as sending a report!)
  • Don't directly confront someone you believe to be breaking the rules or trolling, this can often cause the situation to escalate.
  • Please don't assume someone else has already reported something.
  • If something need to be urgently addressed, please ping the full admin team with @Junimo (Admin) rather than picking one of us to ping. You won't get in trouble for pinging all of us.

And, even if an admin is talking in a channel, please don't assume this means we must be reading every message and catching everything! Sometimes we're jumping between channels, and we're only human, sometimes we miss things. We would always prefer to have something reported unless it's clear we've actively addressed that issue in chat.

Lastly, we just want to remind everyone that we (the Junimo team) are members of the server as well. We do our best to keep the server a safe and welcoming place for everyone, but we also are here to chat, have fun, and enthuse about the game like everyone else. As some of you may know, #secret-woods is a hidden channel which only Cropmasters and above have access to. Recently the treetops there were way too dense so we pruned them a bit... too much, so now it's not so secret anymore. Now that r/place ended, we wanted to thank everyone that took some of their time to represent our community there and showcase some of the great SDV art; there were highs and lows but it was a fun ride and we all should be proud of what we did together! Thanks to our allies and everyone that helped us even if they don't even play the game, without their precious help it would've been a lot harder to defend our areas SDVpuffersalute. Okay, most of the spam accounts SHOULD be gone now. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and if you see any stragglers, please report it to us and don't forget to use Discord's integrated "report spam" option in your DMs! Needless to say, any account that's called "Hype Squad" or "Discord Moderation" or anything even remotely resembling that is a scam. They use a real Discord server link, while the "survey" they link is how your account gets hacked. From what we could see, all the accounts we banned here were likely hacked accounts that used to be legitimate, so be safe and stay vigilant! Official Discord messages will NEVER request private or personal information from you and will have a tag beside their name (similar to the "bot" tag in the sidebar).

If you or anyone you know was banned from this server for a scam due to a hacked account, you can appeal anytime after securing your account. Thanks for helping us keep this server a safe place!

These are real server links, but they lead you into a scam. Also keep in mind that if a Discord server asks you to scan a QR code, do not do it! It's a scam. Stay safe while you surf the webz!

LOOK THERE'S NEW FLUFF CHANNELS

We've had our old info and welcome channels for a long, long, long, long, long, long time. That's about 6 years ago. Reading through all the info about the server and links and roles and staff and bots and everything else all in the same one channel was pretty hard, so we've exploded it into about 5 different ones. It's not a huge change since noone reads them anyway, but now people who want to can actually find what they need. Get the lowdown on the community in #welcome 🌅

Thanks to the lovely staff people who took the time to write the original welcome channels up years ago and keep them up-to-date since then. Maintaining this stuff is a real 🥙

WE CHANGED THE RULES AND STUFF

On a slightly more important note, we've updated our server rules. Here's the rundown:

• We now have some 15 rules, having split rule 1 into five-ish different rules to ease on the number of people being hit by the 2-warning knockout.
• Between 2019~2020 we introduced ban appeals via Bouncer to give people a fresh start if they wanted to rejoin after being banned. After some incredibly unproductive and unpleasant exchanges, we're now making it clear that serious rule breaks will now earn permanent bans. No discussion, no appeal, no second chances. We keep the place clean, but some things aren't worth getting our hands dirty over.

None of the changes are all that radical and we're mostly the same old scene as usual, but we're also pairing this with some changes between us as staff (and moderators) to improve the experience for everyone, and most importantly keep the chat clean and positive.
On that note, chances are you'll only run into trouble with the rules if you're looking for trouble, so just be polite and friendly and you'll get along fine! Read the full rules at #rules 🌄

UP AND COMING THINGS

We've a few more things in the pipeline, and we're hoping to get the ball rolling again soon. Right now there's a number of staff on break, some moving on and out, and some getting back to business, so it's been kinda sleepy in the server lately. We're keeping things moving in the background, and once we've wrapped up some staff stuff we'll have a few more small announcements coming up down the line to do with..

HELLO everyone, a server prune has been activated which keeps active numbers accurate and keeps us from going over Discord's server limit-- anyone who hasn't had a role and has been inactive in the server for over 30 days have been wiped. There are very few of you who were around when I first joined the server, but compared to the plain, boring servers back then, this place was cool. It had its own music bot, a leveling system, even these weird... achievement things that everyone turned off. I honestly only played SDV for about two weeks after getting it, but I liked the server so much that I kept coming back, eventually so much so that they put me in charge of the place. That was nearly five years ago now! However, I was a student with too much free time back then, and over those years I've graduated and gotten a real job, and I've had less and less time to devote to the server, until the time for me has come to step down. I've actually been thinking getting busier at work last Spring, but I've dragged my feet for this day. I know most of you don't really care all that much, which is fair, but for those who I have gotten to know over the years, I thank you for making the server a fun and worthwhile place to be in. I am the author of the bots we use here, as well as the kinda janky leaderboard website, so I won't really be gone, but I'm looking forward to not waking up each morning with Junimo pings each day. I hope you all can find the enjoyment here that I have over the years, and I wish you well.

Hi everyone, it appears that the GOG servers are currently having issues. Multiplayer on Windows/Mac/Linux will be unavailable until the issue is resolved, as the Steam and GOG versions both rely on GOG's system for multiplayer.
