It sucked but then I lucked out into a big cluster of iridium on 1F in one of my earlier trips.
Didn't get a prismatic until hecking GI, but this seems to be actually unusual luck
(The literal guaranteed one at the top of the volcano was this playthrough's first prismatic)

Prize machine gives a random summer and fall sapling, both very plausibly earnable in time to give some fruit before it's too late in year 1
With the shroom cave coming with a preassembled Dehydrator, it's much easier to just buy the other fall sapling and guarantee you have the stuff for the CC. Otherwise waiting for three apples from the fruitbats could really really suck

1.5 fixed a bug where mushroom boxes were dependent on player sleep time and as such could get desynced from the intended every-other-day and just made them be ready when you wake up but as a result they unintentionally started producing daily

Unlocking the greenhouse in fall y1 and then planting an apple tree in it right away, generates 3 apples sooner than the fruit cave's average output if you had somehow unlocked it on Spring Day 2

I would still go with shroom cave, for other reasons.
One of the bigger reasons to pick fruitbats is to potentially get lucky with tree fruit for the community center. The Prize Machine has one random summer sapling and one random fall sapling in it; it's quite possible to reach them in time to plant them so that they do give fruit in the first year.
When you see the fall sapling coming up, you can plan around buying the opposite one for the CC (Poms for Enchanter bundle, Apples for Fodder bundle). The shroom cave's better money value helps this along.
Plus I keep hearing people moaning about the changes to Foraging EXP, and the Shroom cave gives more of that than the Fruitbat cave now

Getting enough moss and hardwood for that many is a problem. What people were doing before, was mass-growing forage seeds for 7EXP apiece. Now, they're worth 2 Foraging and 2 Farming EXP

Maybe that is a feedback they would like to hear in #vanilla-tech-support . I noticed sometimes my cat meows twice in a row, while the first sound has not stopped playing. I guess they had to change all the code about sounds. Maybe the new sound engine has some compression by default that only musicians can hear.

Same, but catfish is also the best EXP/catch to accelerate to level 6-8.
Guess I can mitigate the pain with Trout Soup, use Deluxe Bait whenever I get it to maximize the fishing bar also, and reset the day if I fumble too many catches.
