Yes. It's best to try and run to reset if you're caught in a disadvantageous position, like being out in the open. Defender usually has the advantage, holding angles and being able to hear the very loud footsteps so you can know where they're coming from.

I'm sprinting away from my spawn and checking if anyone is coming to me. As soon as I move a decent distance away, that's when I'll stop and check my surroundings, then my map, and see where I need to go from where I am. I have yet to be killed at spawn.

Every clip I see from people who got killed at spawn, they are standing there checking their map, marking where to go, looking around....like they're standing there for a good 30sec or so....I spend less than a second at spawn. 😂

I really don't get this game. I heard some bots being killed so I go over there stealthy. I can see gunshots and stuff exploding, so I sneak around. Most inexperienced players wouldn't have caught on. He could've also seen a glimpse of you while you were rotating. Always have to assume someone is watching you and waiting for a shot on your head. You're NEVER safe unless you're looking at your vault.

You have to be smart about choosing engagements, and if you’ve been shooting non stop for 2 minutes you should expect another team to have heard that commotion. it's not an awareness thing, everyone i play with has over 100 hours in the game and sits anywhere between level 50ish to level 113.

its not a bad complaint, ratting is an issue and it makes the game stale for more casual players

which if marathon wants to keep up, it will need some casual player base.

It shouldn’t sacrifice the core experience to cater to people that simply don’t understand it. That’s a one way ticket to making directionless slop that feels like every other shooter on the market.

When it loses its core identity that’s when it dies, not because the “casual” base couldn’t get interested in it. The casual base will always drop any game after a minimal amount of time with it. Casual players hop from game to game on the regular, you’re never going to replace Fortnite with that crowd lol.

Hey, I’m new here and I have kind of an odd question. I’m usually a reluctant solo player in extraction shooters but I somehow managed to convince some close friends to give Marathon a try. I think I’m able to give some pointers from my previous experience in games like this, but I’m new to Marathon specifically and only really have Solo experience here and in other extraction shooters. Is there any advice I could learn from or give to them that might help them stick with it? They seem to be enjoying it so far but given how punishing extraction shooters can feel(from my experience at least lol) I have this “pit in my stomach” feeling that they might abandon it if they don’t adapt to it well

at a certain point even if you don't have a ton of good loot in your vault you wont feel as attached to the gear you have and will be more comfortable with losing it because the game will start to present more opportunities to get it back, whether that be better loot from the map or generous contract / faction level rewards or even the daily free stuff in the armory

i got yet another free waster from arachne plus some mips rounds today so you best believe im taking it with me and wont feel bad losing it cus another one is only 6k credits away

a self-res is only 500 credits, i dont feel worried about losing one because i can easily regain it

Better shields help but I've fried purple shields while wearing a white shield myself. They fucked up.

With a game this high stakes, and TTK this low, ideally you never take a fair fight.

You run from fair fights, do your best to create unfair fights in your advantage.

"Not fun combat" yeah I mean. . . yeah. Dire Marsh is a mess right now where people will sit on the same POI for the entire match with a sniper. I loaded into a match 3 times and never got the chance to use my key at Greenhouse because every game became a drawn out stalemate over that POI.

My most successful Outpost strat right now is "camp in Drone Wing waiting for a crew to come hit the button to unlock Command Wing and light them up."

In general if you push a hallway or space that an enemy already has control over, you get lit up so fast that not even having perfect aim could save you.

It's very different from every game I've played before, and some of the strategies it rewards are pretty unexiting. Not sure what to do about it, I bet you Tarkov is the same or worse.

Apex has higher ttk than this, and the way you fix that is by buffing low-mid level shields and leaving high level shields as they are. Equalize the playing field a little bit, have loot value be more in the guns and equipment and implants than in shields. Shields are binary and boring, they're just extra health.

I feel like I must be looting wrong. I just go to a location and start opening boxes, but seems like I never find anything. Found a purple item maybe four or five times all the time I've played. Never even seen a yellow item. Even blue stuff is pretty rare, honestly. A location will say it has hard drives - I'll check every shelf and open every box and maybe find 2. Shield diff is the only heavily impactful thing we have and even then it's not that impactful.

Increase TTK accross the board and you'd have people mad that they can't 1v3 anymore.

I generally tend to prefer higher TTK in games but I see why low TTK was chosen for this game.

Though Bungie is probably still evaluating TTK.

Other than getting your head blown gives you enough time to do something, not always something that will let you live or win, but at least something. Honestly 60 health difference between white and purple shields is not a big deal. Imo the problem is that having white shields feels like absolute shit because you need to recharge them every time you take damage. Maybe a rebalance between health and shields would be better. Like, lower health to 100 and increase base shields by 20. Doesn't change ehp, but makes not having shields way nicer

You cant ego peak an challenge 1v1 a purp shield as white. cause they have more hp. so likely if both opps are hitting headshots. the higher shield wins. but if you position an shoot first on purp with white shield you should win it. Higher difficulty maps have better loot in regular containers like folios and arms lockers and also better loot spawns in more of them in different locations on each map. When I play rook on Perimeter I never found anything better than Overrun AR or a Volt in Haler, but on Outpost I consistently find M77s and Longshots

But what exactly is the point of having builds and abilities and equipment if fights are always over before you even get a chance to use them? sure but the thing is, I play lots of low ttk games. They usually don't have LMG's and SMG's tho bc it's very difficult to make single shot high power weapons feel good and balanced if you die in 2 bulets from a gun that shoots 10 a second. Hunt Showdown is a good example. Tarkov is really the only example of a game similar to this that has modern weaponry and very fast ttk, and there's a reason that you either love tarkov or hate it. This is not tarkov.

I get what you’re saying with the build crafting and the abilities and what not. those are still important. but i think bungie is wanting gunplay and gunfighting to be the most important aspect of marathon rather than letting abilities run the show.

and I personally like it that way. the abilities are still meaningful, but…it’s the other stuff that’s ultimately gonna win you or lose you the fight. for the most part.

Not at all, best practice is to drop everything from a player's backpack on the floor after your team has finished looting it. In case they get revived, they'll have an absolutely empty inventory and spend time picking stuff up from the floor. In case they don't, next person looting will have a much harder time doing so

Also level is not indicative of player progression. Some people play a lot, and die even more so they might have less upgrades than someone half their level but with a more efficient way to play or a higher extraction rate

There's also that Traxus Unsanctioned Hostilities that doesn't say in a single run but doesn't increment that damage to runner and opened bag requirement unless you exfil.
