A large-scale community construction created together with 2 viewers from my Twitch community. The idea of building a cathedral as the central landmark was born out of a troll moment on stream. After 100+ in-game hours, the once small refuge of hope expanded into a fortified stronghold of faith 😉 . The Settlement grew organically over time as the central meeting point for the crew. I typically build just for myself and don't post publicly, but I wanted to give back to the community after all the inspiration this channel gave me to push my building techniques these past couple weeks and ultimately participate in the contest. My build started as a jetty and lighthouse, then slowly grew into a port town as time went on. Each building is unique, and I pushed myself to try a different technique or idea for each one within the constraints of cohesive materials.

You set foot on a long pier jutting out from an extended jetty, waves rocking the attached floating dock. The lighthouse, visible from a great distance, surpasses the height of the island and guides vessels like yours to the nearby port. The worn planks lead you past ship maintenance and offloading services, your gaze transfixed on the variety of local shops to barter your recent pay for fresh sundries. After a quick stroll down the beach you find yourself at your choice of freshly supplied taverns, where the remainder of your coin finds an escape from your pouch. A winding cobblestone paved road connects everything together once you stumble away from the pier, guided inland by the smell of roasted meats and the aromatic scents of an apothecary's drafty shack. You stumble past lodgings, a lone outhouse, and a variety of other occupied homes, ever marching inland. The rigid and angular gridded streets give way to winding and branching footpaths, offering a view of preserved natural elements. Traveling up the winding hill brings you past a bird pen to the sound of hammers and axes, local workers processing the resources of the island into goods for trade, to be stored nearby. You stumble past the well, past the gristmill, and up ever further to your crew's lodgings. You may be as far as can be from the dock, but you can't deny the view.

Once you disembark from the docks, you’ll find a bathhouse, bar, workshop, blacksmith and store. They spread from the lighthouse and jail and gallows on one peninsula to houses and tribal hall on another and civilizes much of the island. Over the docks there are respite spots like a bar and dining area. Atop the hill lies a workshop and small church replete with cross both of which are close to the workers home and stable area.
We built a pirate base with intent of operating as a trader market. Styles varied slightly to keep them similar yet different. This created a cozier town feeling in the end. Builders: J3mmr71 & @ashen topaz Buildname: Yarrrdoon

If you build from the two sides you can see the other side and it gets specially frustrating

I feel like I messed up my video doing a speed walkthrough where you get more whiplash than an accurate idea of how none of my buildings are shells, intricate wall depth, and the overall theme. I also wish I put better photos but I was in a rush after work and wanted to make the deadline.

What my testing has concluded is all worlds are proceedurally generated. You might want to keep loading new worlds till you find the right two islands to make it work

My build is coming along. A couple of things that made this build particularly challenging:

The piers no longer wanting to place as I got farther from shore so I had to really work hard to finess the back of the build.

And the fact I decided the nicest block by far is the stone blocks which meant for every 3 stone wall I had to place 9 small blocks for the inner part of the castle (the wall is just regular stone). Plus there is no stone floor and I wanted stone floor.

At some point my piers were so low that waves would wash over me turning off the build menu before I could place a block so I'd float, wait, then when my feet hit the floor, as quick as I could, slap a block down before the next wave hit. I also used the boat but that can be tedious. So many mistakes that I had to break which also means there is some unknown massive quantitly of resources on the ocean floor I can't get to.

There really was no easy way to do it! I am loving my little water court yard where you can drive in with the small boat and get out and walk. It's just deep enough for the boat (or for you to swim in on a wave) and just shallow enough to walk on.

No where near finished but I am having a blast with this.

I submitted this as a concept because I only had about half a day to do this so I scrambled to just get a basic concept and submitted it to the contest. I only just started playing so I am brand new to this game and I am loving it!

That is weird, but early on in the demo people were asking the question, some were saying same some was different so a dev said its somewhat procedurally generated and trying to get it more and more generated, looking for his comment but there's ALOT lol and can't remember which one it was, for me anyway I've noticed differences in islands

Definitely not static shape. The coastline is slightly different on every island. Played on 5 worlds, got 5 diffent coastlines.
POIs are in the exact same spot everytime, the general layout of the islands is same, but def. not the coastline and thus shape.
Position is random too.

While POIs are consistent , all islands are different. I've loaded 10 different worlds and none of the had the same island shape

I think the 3 islands have approximately the same shape, but their location varies... Where you'd see 'Island 1' in one map you'll see 'Island 3', for instance, but it's the same 'set'. Shorelines vary somewhat.

Regardless, I think 'leave a deep space of X length' between them might be one of the rules for gen

So not possible to build the bridge, unless there's a way around that 🤔

As Tooth somewhat mentioned they are more than likely using PCG's in UE5 that keeps the general foundation the same with random placement for one of 3 possible locations for that PCG to spawn. But the coastline will change and some other variables will move on the island itself. Here is an example between two different seeds.

So it boils down to whether it's possible for them to spawn at a place that will allow you to place those piers

first find a seed where two islands are the closest, second dig out from the coast till you can't raise land any longer, third connect pillars that go all the way to the sea floor until you can't do that any longer, fourth..... Profit

Raising land is not that effective, unfortunately - you get minimal extra reach from it before you're not able to raise anymore plus it won't affect your 'max pier' distance anyway

I could squeeze some extra length in by stacking piers but it's not really consistent - placing them underwater is really hard, and eventually you also reach deeper areas where even that is not possible anymore

Why i didnt bother with build comp if you can just creative mode your build, and yes some people did it the old fashioned way but you'll never know if they did or didn't and since I dont use these methods I couldnt compete with mega builds which people like

well - the gathering is part of the building for me ... no matter the game. I remember Horizons where there were no dropped items at all .. all was crafted and without gathering, the game would not have had any content beside barehand combat. I like those games.

had problems but could remove the dependency on the pillars as i added another layer of floors on top of the roof. maybe some tiles were not 100% connected

and cool features ... you want those stones up there but dont want to place them from under them ... go up to the roof - select the stones - deselect snap - use z and move them all the way down and place them throu the blocks

with that knowledge i would have build part by part chunks sized like the large pier - holding with stones from above only supported by the walls arround the construction

editor is so much fun. I like that those decos dont start to texture-flicker if placed over each other ... in path of exile doing this, could easily lead to eye-cancer as both surfaces would be rendered and if you move they start to flicker

i ckecked out the "mod" or for me its a cheat .. today that can enable all decos that are in the files allready and that are in the mod-database. As soon as i saw them all and placed some of the clay and stone walls and arches and noble stairs and beds - i wanted to build with them and that would ruin the release/ea for me ... so i went back to the savegame before where all those decos were not explored and available as building options. Else i know i could not resist to use them over time. Its like you are a little kid and allready know what you will get for christmas or birthday months before.

I've seen the file (in the save) that contains the name and other details of the world. I didn't pay much attention to it, just opened it out of curiosity.
I wonder if that's the only file that contains the world ID. If so you could just replace it with another to run the world on a different account? I mean... In my little näive mind. 😅

so create a new world - place a 15 slot storage basket and leave - zip the new world-dir with a password and let a friend copy the directory you zipped at his savegame directory and test if there is something showin up on his list while trying to start a game .(backup everything in WindroseDemo/R5/Saved/RocksDB/0.7.0 before. Most likely needs a location he has to go to as he may not spawn at the baskets location to check if it is still there and can be accessed.

Dont sell the island - make roleplayvideos salesvideos on how to create cool stuff and get some followers or even patrons 😉 To go further you could also open a roleplayed-store and sell the materials aka a file with baskets that include all materials needed to rebuild what you just showed them or even a scaffolding for the content of the video^^

@smoky slate @rare forge Good morning, I would like to say how excited I am about this game since I really liked the demo and it shows a lot of promise. There are several flaws and basic things that are missing, but it is a demo. My congratulations to the developers and I encourage them to continue with this project, since all of us who played ATLAS were left wanting more. Please, if you get stuck on ideas or development, do the wisest thing and ask the players with more experience in this type of game. I believe that if it is done well, you could make one of the best games in history.

Hey guys 👋 Hoping the game gets mod support someday. I’m very new to 3D, but I figured I’d start practicing by turning some of the in-game food icons into actual table props. So… here’s my first attempt. Please be gentle 😅 If modding becomes a thing later, I’d love to add more little decorative stuff like this. For now I’m just experimenting and learning.

if you need anyting that can be placed in a box hovering in the air .. you may stack that item from like 10 in a stack to 10 stacks x1 item so the chances landing at a good spot get higher and then kill the container chest basket ... whatever. Things will spread out and some hang in the air for maybe an effect you are looking for

and you wont collect it as you move over it, because killing the container it was in, seems like counting as "you dropped it" so you dont want to pick it up running over it any longer.

it was at least - have not tried to use it permanently. I moved all my chests to the new location and killed them and everywhere were "staples" of 50 wood or 40 ore stacked on top of each other. As long as i did not collect the one at the lowest position, they remained there - and still were after a relog. I just cant say if the material on the ground all was up there before relog.

In Ark Survival Evolved the dev gave out a so called "dev kit". It's to make your own mods under Unreal Engine. If you plan to be a modder for Windrose for sure checking out those wouldn't make harm... it works under UE5 after all. 🙂

My next idea is taking away the boost from my crew, then get a savage boar and let it run havoc on the ship until it gets down... (that one actually might have a chance against the crew). Then.... Recall my ship to somewhere and see if the boar will come with it or not...? 😁

So, I found out (in boredom) that you can create wave brakes by using the shovel. The water (god damn you devs are amazing) actually react to this and when the waves hit it, it actually causes the waves to break-- which means that section in that arch, is calmer water than the other side.

GAWD the water physics in this game are 💋

However, the water physics do not like man-made holes XD

I hope the trees will not bock all nice routes to that point.
