Guys, I know many of you hoped for the release date reveal today, and we understand your passion -- trust me, we are so eager to lock in the date and announce it to you as well. But now is not the time to do it. In many ways the full EA version of the game could be several times bigger in content and scale than the demo. Like x10 islands, x10 points of interest, more ships, enemies, crafting and building, etc. This is a huge amount of content. We are working hard to polish it at least to the same level of quality you have seen in the demo PLUS we still hope to squeeze in some QoL requests we have heard in the last few weeks.
The process of building the game for you is a huge inspiration, your attention to Windrose is very humbling, but please, let us cook more. When we feel confident enough, we will announce the release date. I promise, we are not holding this information to tease your anticipation. We are holding if because we want to lock this in firmly and ship the game on time and in best condition possible.

Hey, captains! Thank you for all the excitement and hype about yesterday's news. We are truly humbled by such a response to our release date!
For your convenience, I want to address some frequent questions so you can refer to this post if needed.
Q: Will there be dedicated servers?
A: Yes, a dedicated server build will be included with the game (and available to everyone on Steam free of charge as a 'Tool') at launch so you will be able to host it. We're also doing our best to work with the popular server providers so that they have all the necessary information by release day and you will be able to rent it.
Q: What is the price of the game?
A: The base game is 29,99 USD, and the Supporter Pack is 39,99 USD. Supporter pack includes our soundtrack (in-game music, sea shanties and trailer tracks), plus a collection of wallpapers. It does not include anything in-game, and it is just a nice way for you to support the game if you like what we're cooking. Prices in other currencies are being worked on, so you will see them on launch day, but we can safely say they will be adjusted where appropriate and we do our best so that the regional prices feel right.
Q: Will there be a launch discount?
A: Yes, we are planning to add a little nice launch discount to celebrate the Early Access release!
Q: How does the Early Access version compare to the demo? I heard it is 95% bigger.
It depends on the type of content. For example, the demo had Ketch as the only playable big ship, while the Early Access has Brigs and Frigates. That's not 95% more ships for sure, but rather 3 vs 1. On the other hand, the demo only had 3 big islands, while the Early Access has 30+, and some smaller on top. So in general, the Early Access version is considerably bigger than the demo, and includes not just more content, but some systems not present in the demo at all. Let me quote our Early Access description from Steam:
Windrose is a fully playable survival adventure with optional co-op. Depending on various factors, the main story will take around 50-70 hours to complete, but this may vary depending on the playstyle. In terms of content and features, Early Access version contains 3 biomes (with unique main and side quests, crafting recipes, enemies and bosses) scattered across ~30 procedurally generated islands with over 90 hand crafted points of interest, 3 playable ships, naval combat with boarding actions, fully functional building system with several distinctive building styles, crafting and upgrading, character progression with stats and talents, armor, weapon and equipment combinations, Tortuga town, factions and their quests, as well as basic reputation systems and NPC workers.
Q: Will my progress from the demo carry over?
A: No, unfortunately that won't be possible, that's why we stated it from day one of the demo. Tech wise there are too many differences between the demo and the main game to properly migrate everything.
Q: How can I claim my Steam Next Fest reward?
A: No need to do anything, matey -- when you play the Early Access version, SNF Spyglass will become available to you as a base decoration piece when you progress a bit into the game. Thank you for playing the demo!
Q: Will the demo be available further on?
A: The demo will be sunset with Early Access release.
Q: Can I pre-order/play early? I want to support the game
A: The game will only be available on the launch day -- thank you ❤️ Be sure to add it to your Wishlist and tell your friends about it, we appreciate it.
Q: Will preload be available?
A: No, but the unpackaged client size should be somewhere under 30GB, which, hopefully, is manageable.
Q: Will mods be supported?
A: We unfortunately don't have the resources to support the mods immediately, but we absolutely welcome them. We have created a Mod Showcase section here in Discord to help the community kickstart this creative process!
Q: I am a content creator, and interested in the game, do you have a CC program?
A: We do have a CC group in Discord, but it's more a community of content creators who were with us since the Alpha test, than a real program currently -- it will probably be worked on later. In the meantime, feel free to use our up-do-date media kit. It includes plenty of assets and press contacts, too. You can also make a request through this form:
Q: How many players can play together?
A: It's 1 to 8 for now, but higher than 4 is not recommended unless you have one beast of a server. Our ships (especially big frigate) are quite performance heavy for now, so when you roll out 4 of them at the same time - it strains server, a lot. Pulling out 8 frigates together will probably drag poor server hosted on a regular average PC to a deathbed. If you don't plan to roll out huge ship fleets (or at least not expect amazing performace while doing so 😅 ), even 6-8 might be somewhat alright. 4 is still something we recommend though.

tl;dr: Before anything else, we’d like to ask for a small favor. If you happen to work with, or know someone at a major EU/NA ISPs who might be open to speaking with us, we would truly appreciate an introduction. It could make a real difference in improving co-op connectivity for everyone.
It’s been just over a day since our Early Access launch, and what a journey it’s already been. This moment means a great deal to us, and we’re truly grateful to be sharing it with all of you after such a long road.
Co-op is where many of the game’s most memorable moments come to life. Unfortunately, we know that connectivity hasn’t been as smooth as it should be, and we’re working hard to identify and resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
We’ve put together a short troubleshooting guide with some potential solutions, though we know it doesn’t cover every case. We deeply appreciate your patience and support, and we completely understand how frustrating these issues can be. Several hotfixes are already in development, and your help is incredibly valuable in making sure we address things properly.
We’ve received multiple reports that some of our server addresses and backend services used for co-op may be restricted or blocklisted by certain ISPs across Europe and North America. To be completely transparent, we’re still trying to figure out what exactly is going wrong here. We don’t yet have a clear answer, but we’re doing everything we can to get to the bottom of it. Something is clearly interfering along the way, and if you can help us shed some light on this, we would sincerely appreciate it.
If you happen to work with, or know someone at, a major ISP who might be open to speaking with us, we would greatly appreciate any introductions. Even a small connection could go a long way in helping us improve co-op stability for everyone as we continue our journey toward the full 1.0 release.

Update incoming soon with online game components downtime!
We are finalizing an important game update that should resolve several common connectivity issues and introduce automatic save backup system (so you will be able to restore your saves if something goes wrong). This update hopefully will heal a lot of the issues experienced in online play and also will fix several game bugs.
However, to deploy it we will require online downtime approximately at <t:1776593700:t> (your local time) for around 20-30 minutes. During this time, online play won't work. Updating your game\server as soon is possible is highly recommended. We will share full patch notes soon.
Apologies for rolling out an update on weekend, but we do believe it will improve the experience for many players and prevent game progress loss.

We have just plundered another milestone – 1,000,000 copies, and “we” means “you” – a crew of fine brave captains sailing the seas of Windrose. Moreover, today Windrose has assembled over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam! Your support for the game is absolutely astonishing, and your patience while we are working on fixes is truly heart-warming. While we keep working on the game, we read your reviews and comments, watch your videos and streams, and sometimes, honestly, shed a pirate-y tear of happiness, because now when the game is out you share our dream of swashbuckling adventure. And there are boars, too, we know, but whatever does not send you flying into the nearest tree, makes you stronger, right?

We are starting this week working on the next update to address the remaining hottest issues with the game AND we are also looking into your early feedback to get a list of actionable changes that we can introduce quickly to improve your overall experience with Windrose.
Speaking of feedback, I'd like to remind you that for now, if you want to submit your feedback, the best way to do so is to use the in-game survey link. Later on we will be looking into other feedback submission options/systems.
Lastly, let's address a frequent question about the game's future roadmap. We do have a very high level roadmap consisting of future biomes (Ashlands is already teased in the game and that's going to be the next one obviously), and game plot key points. Currently our goal is to populate this high level plan with a combination of our gameplay ideas, new content, and popular community requested features so we have a full scope of the next major update. Then we will be happy to share it with you and maybe even show off some WIP stuff.
All this work is very intensive so please expect some reduction of 1v1 communication and troubleshooting. We need the team to concentrate fully on delivering the updates that matter and improve the game for everyone 🫡

Ahoy! A couple of comments worth highlighting following up the announcement:
Will my progress be lost when you release Ashlands?
We stated it before, but looks like it is worth repeating: NO WIPES are planned!
We do our best on tech side to allow all the future updates to keep your progress intact all the way to 1.0 release. Of course shit happens, but our plan, intentions and our current implementation of the game is that we can roll out major updates while keeping everyone's progress and worlds. This was one of the common pain points we noticed when we started working on Windrose, and this is something we have always taken into account.
6 months is too long, nobody will play the game, etc
Some time ago we asked you to let us cook, and you did -- it is now safe to say it was worth it. Please have faith in us once again, and we will make it worth the wait ❤️ Our team was hard at work to roll out this Early Access, and we are not going to slow down. However all the new content and features we want to deliver take time, and we do believe it is much better to roll out a big, exciting expansion-like update that you will enjoy exploring than making several small ones that will have much less impact on their own. Honestly, it's not a rocket science, and that's how most of the best Early Access examples have worked. We will get there, captains ❤️

We're going to address various issues like SSD and CPU usage, connectivity, "missing" building blocks, stability, and lots of bugs. Unfortunately Steam Cloud Saves fixes are still in the works (we want to be especially careful with your game progress!), but even without them, it's going to be a substantial improvement of your experience in Windrose. While we're discussing the scope of the next update internally, we'd love to expand Windrose's in-game shanty collection. And for this specific matter, we want your suggestions!

A couple of rules:
• Shanties should be in English
• Please attach lyrics, videos, recordings, or any other helpful references if possible
• Traditional and lesser-known shanties are both welcome
• Bonus points if the shanty fits Windrose’s atmosphere and sailing adventures
• If you'd like to suggest more than one shanty, simply retake the survey
