im guessing based off you mentioning cannon and lance the problem is their moves like sair and dair which move the user, for that i would try to look at your opponents movement and what they like to do to approach you and try to predict (read) when they're going to attack at you, you can bait those moves out if you like or just play normally and read them, just make sure you're in a position to punish them, sometimes with moves like lance sair you might not have the right positioning so its better to use a faster light attack (maybe katar dlight or a sword sair, moves like that) which wont get you punished if you miss

basically just learn the moves, focus on when your opponents are going for them, space them, punish them

Against cannon dodging up is usually a good idea because for them to get an extended string they have to be ready for it, as always don't overuse the same dodge or you'll eventually get read

Blasters and orb are really good at zoning the opponent with moves like blaster slight and orb dair, even if you're missing them you're forcing your opponent to respect your hitboxes

A cannon/Lance player who mostly approaches with moves like sair/dair would have a hard time against well spaced blaster slights and sairs

If your learn to use sair while you jump backwards away from your opponent you can play really safe with blasters and wall your opponent out, try not to overcommit with moves like nlight you'll find their sairs a lot easier to space
