I feel like I am hitting a wall with weapons like the axe or rocket Lance in coming back on stage. Since their recovery are so punishable and easy to predict pretty much everyone I see playing those weapons in mid to high gold seem to be getting gimped all the time now because we all got strong enough to punish those but people still have the bad habits that are hard to lose with them and i was wondering if anyone had tips on coming back on stage with easy to predict patterns to not get killed

just keep playing and learning the mechanics and different signatures of each legend as you play against them when you're super new learning one specific technique wont really help you much its better to just try and find what works but in general try to not constantly run at the enemy and work on moving around the map (and with your attacks) better

you can main any legend you want scythe is usually harder for beginners to learn because it has different mechanics to other weapons (active input) but just play whoever you like/find fun

Hey, just recently got back into this game (was never very good previously) but recently picked up Azoth. Im struggling to understand how jumping works in combos with the Axe. Am i just missing the input window or?
As previously with bows/swords and stuff I could do the very basic DLight -> Slight etc type things. But with Axe i seem to just end up with either 2 hits of Slight/A Nlight right after or just nothing?

You spot dodge quite a bit, not every time, but definitely more than you should. Instead try to mix in other dodges or cancel your spot dodge with a gravity cancel or jump and then dodge or just fast fall

You also seem to run into stuff a lot, not being patient enough in neutral or just misspacing/not covering your approaches. Weapon throws are good for that or you could mix up your movement more by faking an approach and then backing off and punishing what I try to hit you with

Yeah, that just takes practice, I wouldn't worry too much about it then

Yeah, you'll need to learn the timings, spamming it doesn't work very well, and it makes your dodges more predictable because when you do that, you're just panic dodging without considering where you should be dodging

When you get hit, definitely don't try to hit back most of the time, when you're in disadvantage, it's not your turn to try to get damage in, you should focus on getting your footing again before trying to attack. That isn't to say never attack out of a disadvantageous place, but typically only attack to cover yourself in those situations

And don't run into nlights, I notice most people (even at 2200+) run into nlights WAY too often. If you notice your opponent standing there and catching you with nlights, cover yourself with weapon throws, mixing up movement, not running directly in front of them, aerials, dodges right when you would be in range of that. Remember that you can't dodge on the ground unless it's a spot dodge though

Idk what people are doing at silver though, so maybe you don't have to worry about other people doing what I was

Honestly, I was mostly focused on your defensive options, so we can play another and I'll try to watch your movement more closely

You seem to use most of the movement options available to you, but sometimes you get in this awkward in between time where you just dashed or jumped and then don't immediately do something afterwards. Movement itself is good, but it sometimes needs to be followed up with something, otherwise your opponent can just match your movement and hit you with little to no fear of getting hit first. Sometimes raw movement can be used to slow things down or bait a bad habit out of your opponent, but if you do it more often then not, it becomes easy to punish empty movement. I know this kinda contradicts what I said about not attacking all the time, but if you're going to commit your movement, you have to be ready to commit more movement, a dodge, an attack, or a weapon throw

Also, fast fall. Always fast fall more. I'm not even sure that you weren't fast falling, but 99% of players don't fast fall often enough. Not fast falling leads to awkwardly floating slowly and just kinda waiting to be hit

One more thing, when you get hit up in the air, NEVER ground pound. Every silver player does it and it's completely terrible and has almost zero merit. I know I messed up my punish for it our first game, but 95% of the time against a good player, you'll get punished for that. Notice how the gun nairs hit you several times in a row because you ground pounded instead of jumping or dodging

Instead, use movement to get back to stage. Cover yourself with dairs, weapon throws, or dodges and move around with jumps and fast falls

Spear slight can't be your entire neutral game. It's more of a punish tool than an approach option. When you dash slight, you could instead dash nlight for a safer poke, or dash weapon throw for a safer longer range approach, or you could just dash and then dash back to bait something or dash and then keep sprinting forward and then slight or nlight when you get them to the corner

Also dash jump is a big thing in neutral

As for risky clip type stuff

It's really up to you. The only way to get better at it is to try it and mess it up and bunch and die a lot, but it isn't necessary to being a really strong player

Most players like going for stuff like that because it's fun, but you can be just as effective or even moreso with strong stage control
