guns (the correct name is blasters btw), is one of the hardest weapons of the game so dont expect to be perfect with it in 1 week

blasters require a LOT of spacing so it's harder for new players to use it

what do i do in these situations?

well dlight dair is true ttill about orange, so in that situation they would have jumped it because they're too damaged or you messed the combo up, but if you're struggling to make it hit its okay to go with dlight jump sair or dlight slight on earlier healths, i think in a situation where they're really close to you with blasters, jump dair is actually a great option to go for, if they're grounded with you dlight hits stacked, but if they've just jumped out of dair you can probably get away with dair.

you can do combos and strings, just know when they're applicable, cody travis has a good 2 part blasters guide which is worth a watch if you haven't already, and in general spacing out your opponent on blasters will net you damage, going for true combos when you hit setup moves like dlight and strings/reads when you cant get the true combo

it would be worth learning x-pivot (reverse) nair, yeah theres things you can do that dont involve x-pivot'ing but its such an important part of blasters kit, you can definitely do it on controller, theres pros who play controller. pavelski started out as a pro playing blasters, and if you see him play them, half of the time hes x-pivotting moves lol, it would be a good idea to practise it properly. you dont have to specifically practice nlight nair just x-pivot nair and the variations of x-pivot dair till you're familiar with them at least

dair and xpivot dair is great in neutral, super hard to punish when xpivotted, you can do it from platforms as well to be even harder to hit
xpivot nair is also amazing in neutral if they';re above you and it strings from a lot of moves, you can do it out of nlight (but chase dodge diagonally up and just reversed is better), slight > xpivot nair, nair into nair, etc theres a lot of potential to it.
i think if you found some gameplay of pavelski playing lucien preferably in a pro game you'd see just how well he uses the mechanic, tho other pros use it well, just less

learn which combos are true, then if your combo is not true (or 1 frame and they are bad) then presume they will dodge as soon as they can, if they dont, then 1) they're either deliberately delaying their dodge a certain amount of hits, which you can then read or 2) (common in lower skill levels) they dont know how to or are bad at dodging

if you use your chase dodge you lose your dodge, always. however if you chase dodge from the ground you can do a double chase dodge or a chase dodge into a gravity cancel, either way after you use either of these two (or just one) you lose your dodge

ik you can do 2 from the ground but the way I thought about it was that you're given a free one from the ground, then the 2nd one you do in the air uses up your dodge. if you do dlight > cd > sair then you have used your dodge as soon as you sair, you could do dlight > cd > gc > whatever but not dlight > cd > sair > gc

as soon as you either use 1 cd, double cd, or cd into gc then your dodge is gone

the game is basically all about mind games, being unpredictable and trying to find opponents patterns, bots on the other hand are either random or have certain patterns that can put them in a loop

yeah unintutive + you are relying on a weak finger with asdf since you cant use 3 fingers for that layout properly + if you use wasd shift to dodge then you have to get used to it on your right hand + the time it takes to learn a theoretically almost equal (and in my opinion worse, but still playable) layout makes it just not worth learning + theres nothing wrong or limiting about wasd.
that being said - pros play analogue with controller which imo has way more problems than your layout, and they still succeed on it, so yes your layout is playable, maybe even master-able but i dont see how its an upgrade from wasd ever

i think the limit to using your pinky is on shift, since its natural to use that for fps games so its already pretty good, but forcing it more than that in games is just gonna make it a serious bottleneck

err no not really and you never have to hold it down, like i said most people will have a lot of practise using it on shift, its natural placement as well for typing and most other games. its ergonomic. asdf for movement is just worse than wasd, even if you can do 1 gimmick better you will do everything else worse

1. improve your movement. this will allow you to evade their attacks better
2. learn the spacing. knowing where moves hit will help you not get hit
3. jump. many "spam" sigs dont hit in the air
4. dodge
5. weapon throw. that interrupts sigs
6. stop walking directly towards them
7. change approaches. approaching the same way will cause you to get hit the same way
