any of the up directions generally the safest but if you overuse any of the dodges you will get hard read and when someone can hard read you they can get the most optimal punish which regardless of where u dodge will be bad

its never about what the best option is in general it all depends on what your opponent expects you to do anyway, mix up your dodges and if you notice your opponent is going for the same read multiple times dont dodge into it

using fast weapons is easy

it's mainly that slow vs fast matchup that is rough

first off, aproach with movement no matter what weapon youre on, never approach with a move bc ull get punished easy
hammer can barely aproach unless its a dash into a slight or dash dlight
greatsword is the same but you wont get punished for anything. dlight can reach from the half the map away and you can use nlight to catch dodges really easy. both are long moves which outrange close range weapons like katars, gaunts etc
axe slight isnt the best move but when you learn its reach and positioning it reaches pretty far. use nlight to catch everything and use dlight to catch when they miss an aerial move
dont panic jump too that will get you killed

it means dashing up to them to be in range of all your moves and not just a long range one

good example is sword slight, you can use it to get close to your oponent but if it misses youre done for
if you dash up to them instead of using that sword slight you are able to use both nlight and dlight bc ur now in that range

Check a few things
Check if out of jumps recovery is enabled. Turn it off it uses your recovery when you press jump button when you are out of jumps, it's useless
