the creator of the dx consumables should make an api that can let other mod creators make dx packs and cards
regiumus (based of the Latin word of royalty regium) a legendary joker that adds a 10,j,q,k,and ace to the deck with a royal sticker. Now as for the actual stats: if a card with the sticker is played add a x0.1 multiplier to the card, additionally if a royal flush is played increase add a x1 multiplier
Also I forgot to mention that the royal sticker adds the wild enhancement on the cards

Freehand/Unpleasant Gradient Jokers:
If played hand DOESN'T contain a Straight/Flush (respectively) grants +(value) mult
If it DOES, instead increase this joker's mult by (value)
The idea is that, unlike with most scaling jokers, you can't scale it up AND reap it's benefit simultaneously (so that's one niche these fill). At first you'll want to play Straights/Flushes, but later on you'll want to pivot and AVOID those hands (incentive to avoid certain hand types is another mostly-unexplored niche).

balatro is designed for you to play 1 hand type for most of the game
this would be worse than a lot of other scaling jokers which are less work
like supernova, which scales by +1 per times that hand was played
this would have almost no utility compared to those other scaling jokers and it's be cast aside in most runs

Reinforcing more of the same is a naturally occurring synergy because consistency is inherently stronger on average, but this doesn’t preclude new content, especially modded content, from encouraging other play patterns

like blackjack, Aces count as 1 in this calculation, unless paired with a face card, in which case they're 11.

Mod idea: Active items
mainly inspired from the binding of isaac, you can only hold one active item (maybe 2 with a joker). it''ll work like a consumable, except it'll use up a "charge" instead of disappearing. charges will refill after a blind is defeated (or maybe each active item has a different way of being charged). the amount of charges the item has and the amount of charge needed to use it will depend on the item. (1 charge use, 3 max charges as a baseline maybe). it can be activated and reactivated as long as you have the charges for it.
don't actually have any neat ideas for activated abilities tho, i never got that far 💀

Idk if they would have a slightly stronger effects tailored to the card, and I feel like it would be hell for completion purposes but. Idk man I just think it would be neat as a texture pack as a minimum.
(I say most bc some cards are already full artworks. They could still have the variation tho ;A;)

Basically, a GMO-like mod (if you know of Brotato) that basically allows you to combine 2 Decks together, or even more if you acquire/put together more of these Jokers.
I have no modding experiece, only stuff with ideas and VERY weak drawing, so maybe this could be done by someone?

Is it possible to change slightly how a card functions when creating a community challenge? For instance, if I wanted to make a challenge that started with madness but didn't want someone to cheese it by never buying any jokers? (ie the mult always mults but never grows unless it actually consumes a joker)
probably not, buut instead of that you could have the challenge destroy 1 random joker every time you leave the shop and prioritise anything other than madness, then make it so you lose if you have zero jokers
madness will gain xmult as if it's eating the joker but the challenge is a middlejimbo confirming that it happened
Hmm . If you can do an odd effect like that, maybe it could do the modified madness trigger and give you an eternal madness that was debuffed but didn't appear to be? But at that point it's basically a mod in and of itself.. I think I will just not go with the madness idea
The main idea I'm trying to balance around is, allowing unlimited joker slots but making them rare or hard to get somehow, and I thought starting with eternal madness might be an interesting effect if it didn't keep growing every blind regardless

Imagine a mod that changes the score text from 9.122e12 to it's word counterpart. Reminicint of adventure capitalist or similar games, going like million, billion, trillion, quadrillion, quintillion, etc etc. For me personally it would make the numbers seem much larger instead of just e^x. Pretty much just a ui change
I think we need more jokes and stuff that /reward/ you for massively over-scoring. That's how we all naturally wanna play the game anyway if we're being honest. The best examples I can think of off the top of my head are only Mika's Show-Off Joker and Betmma's overkill and explosion vouchers
As a corralary I just thought of an interesting idea for a joker pack. Jokers based on or related to vouchers, both vanilla and modded
Like one joker for each voucher I'm thinking. Like the boss blinds joker pack, but with them all doing different interesting things
It'd be cool if someone took a lot of the ideas from Cryptid and made it into a more "balanced" traditional content pack. Sort of a cryptid-lite

Someone make a card sleeves system! You'd open a sleeve pack, and put it on a card that is randomly drawn like in the Tarot packs. It can help identify cards when they are face down, and also protect cards from the random destruction effects like immolate. Could also add mult or chips to the card. Maybe a way you can take cards out of sleeves and put others in?
A sleeved card could be protected from random destruction, could be protected from things like Sigil or Ouija as well. It could also protect from being debuffed.
Maybe you could take a card out of a sleeve, put it into the consumables area, then put any other card in the sleeve for added flexibility.
Could also have rare Joker specific sleeves that could protect from things like Hex or Ankh, or debuffing.
Could also add a joker that works with sleeved cards.
Promo Joker: Retrigger all sleeved cards. (Jokers or Playing Cards)
with multiple sleeves that could function as a blueprint that copies two jokers

like the holographic sleeve only gives +5 mult as opposed to regular holo giving +10

With all the extra types of consumables and the sheer amount of jokers in extensively molded balatro, I think we need since decks with more extensive shops from the start. Like having all the vouchers that give more shop space, vanilla, betmma, and tier 3, redeemed from the start. So Overstock, Overstock+, overflowing stock 3d boosters, 4d boosters, etc

Jokers: Evolved
Idea is jokers can evolve after a condition is met. Conditions vary between jokers with the list so far being: held for a number of rounds, triggering a number of times, number of/certain consumables used, or another joker being bought. Evolutions happen automatically upon being triggered, and keep the stats of the joker they replace.
For art, they could be re-vamped or varied arts of the initial joker they evolve from. I just don't think this should be the priority.
There also will be a new Spectral Card that forces evolution!
Evolved Joker Examples: (Chosen at random)
Vagabond -> Optimistic Nomad: Create a negative tarot card if hand is played with $5 or less. | Condition: Trigger two times while consumable slots are full.
Steel Joker -> Stainless Steel Joker: Makes a random non-Steel card in your starting hands Steel. Gives X0.2 Mult for each Steel Card in your full deck (Currently X1 Mult). | Condition: Use The Chariot three (maybe 5?) times while held.

Please make a liner scaling Ante or something more reasonable, I don’t like how the normal game works at all, after Ante 10 Ante 11 jumping too 7 Milion is so unreasonable for any normal fun deck that’s not, the usual bull crap Steel king red sticker with baron mime and blueprint. I have made it too Ante 15+ so many times and only with that, I genuinely feel like the game is unfun because off this being the only thing that can keep going in Endless.
Now I understand counter argument saying “game isn’t really supposed too go above Ante 8, Ante 8 means you win” but I don’t think it’s so fun, cause for the first 1-4 Antes your build is just random and nothing exciting like an Ai, 5-10 is super fun.
10+ is unfun and miserable if you have cool deck/combo made that’s not OP.

Just woke up from a dream about a mod which allowed you to store playing cards in either the consumables slot or the jokers slot, sort of like the tetromino storage mechanics that exist in Tetris, but it takes up inventory space on the top screen.
The system seemed to be that you could only move cards to or from the extra inventories while you were in a blind. You could not do it from tarot/spectral booster packs.
Whoever sees this and decides to try to make the mod, would have to be the one to make decisions such as:
- should things like Ankh/Wheel of Fortune/Etc. be allowed to treat playing cards stored in the Joker slot as jokers and have them be given editions that way?
-- if so, does Ectoplasm make playing the card negative, or ignore it? - should you be able to affect these playing cards via Tarot and Spectral cards that affect selections? Maybe only one at a time, since I think the hand area is the only area that allows you to select more than one card within it at a time.
- should Periko be allowed to duplicate the playing cards you place in the consumable slot? Does he make the duplicates negative?
I do not need credit for the idea if someone does make this mod. It was just something I remembered from my dream, and thought was interesting enough to share.

(Nah, but fr, Grim from Mathguy has a bunch of Skill Tree stuff, but it also includes Classes that give special new cards or mechanics to it. One of those classes are called Hoarder, and it allows you to Pack cards into your Consumable Slots, which'll let you either draw them back to hand or discard them.)

If you are playing cryptid, you are willfully embracing a lack of balance unseen in any other mod besides possibly Jen's Almanac
Honestly, it ends up breaking so much that it actually kinda balances itself out in the end.
(If you try to duplicate/copy the card, it'll reduce your hand size, even allowing itself to get to 0 and result in a gameover.)
That might not be the case for too long, if the Gameset system has anything to say.

Ascended hands are a cryptid feature, but smods makes the game recognize larger hands as what they are in terms of existing poker hands. with vanilla and increased card selection limit, that would not be the case

Here's a suggestion i have based on GreenDigi and whothehellisnico's suggestions for Ortalab
a mod that can dynamically change the card/booster/voucher slots in shop based on how many extra there are added by mods
and you can change the amount it adds per x manually and can change the numbers to be manual only
I have a suggestion based on a video I just saw from Ec1pc.
You start with 0 cards in your deck, a marble joker, and the tarot that gives a random joker
It seems like a really fun challenge deck
If the tarot gives you a bad joker you're screwed.
You need 300 chips to make it out of round 1 ante 1
you would have only a stone card, which is 50 chips
plus the High Card base, which is 5x1
That gets you to 55x1
Which means you need either 245 additional chips, or 4.45__45__ additional mult.
If you get, say, Four Fingers, you're screwed.
You only would get 1 hand because your deck is only 1 card at that point

its more like the get lucky till you get a good starting joker before the actual fun challenge deck

The person who made the SMB Joker said it's only possible because there was already an NES emulator written in Lua. And that Doom wouldn't work (at least not without significantly more effort) because there's not a Lua-based emulator for those old PC games

a more "balanced" version of this could be -50 to 50 although thatd still be stronger than stock and probably be a bit frustrating at times lmao

look for stack traceback in the log, around there it'll say the file name or path and the line that the crash happens on
sometimes mods like cryptid and talisman, which heavily modify the game, can "take over" the crash log though

A lot of mods add their own packs, and while the main shop is relatively able to handle the added bloat, the card packs section is hit way harder
Idk if it's possible and I don't know any Lua, so I'll just suggest:
Variety & Combo Packs
Variety packs would basically be a card pack that lets you pick between 1 pack from a given selection of packs. Jumbo variety packs pick jumbo card packs, etc etc. You'd probably want to give each pack a "type" that the modded cards should be paired with (I.e. "Arcana" for packs like paperback's Minor Arcana, "Planet" for packs like pokermon's Energy, etc.)
This way, if you would have gotten a normal Arcana pack in a shop, instead of it being removed you can simply buy the variety pack and pick if you want the vanilla rng or the modded one.
Combo packs are essentially the same thing, but instead of picking a pack from a list, it combines all of the options from each of the packs while still remaining at the same number of choices. As an example, you could get a Jumbo Combo Arcana pack and use your 2 choices to pick one vanilla arcana card and one card from the attached modded pack.
I imagine if both were to be done at once then it would be a config between which style you'd prefer
I also don't have a clue if this is at all possible, or even if it's maybe been suggested before. I might try to learn some Lua to try and do it myself if nobody takes up the concept, but that's if I get less busy lol

ah, no, though #1353866504743161886 targets the same problem. But that just currently allows you add booster pack slots to the shop. And soon will allow you to force specific types of boosters to show up. But the idea for that mod is to be generally a bit more invisible

For example, "Alert" gets replaced with a representation of "A first-person view of someone about to break a donkey piñata with a bat," and "Legacy" gets replaced with the aftermath of the piñata fox character doing whatever happened in what I stated personally. like there's a challenge that starts you with a pinned ceremonial dagger
vanilla pinned isn't a proper sticker, so much as an uncategorized status that only exists in challenges
