There will be a lot to learn. Mods downloaded end up in your mod manager, go there to enable for local play. Loadup a GM mission and you should be able to use them (depending on the mod).

conceptually i really like playing on a more vanilla+ experience, mostly because 21 gigs of mods is like, wtf. BUT that's because i don't know what those mods do yet. i have done stuff in arma 3 and know that there's big mods, i see RHS in some of these lists that servers have too. so what im wondering is mostly at what point do the mods actually change how the server gameplay functions

Depends on the mods. Mods will change anything from:

• Weapons
• Clothing and Equipment
• Radio processes
• GameMaster Effects
• Loadout Editors
• Weapon Recoil and Effects
• Vehicles
• Medical Systems

The list goes on.

Thats fair enough. For me, I don't like the Cold War era, so I only run modern era mods.

It just takes time to learn what mods do what. Each community server will be different, so you will just have to find what suits you.

Howdy first off welcome to arma Secondly I would recommend doing the tutorial first depending on how familiar you are with milsim games as it will be a big help lastly as far as servers go id recommend any of the conflict hq commander servers under the offical tab of the server browser id stay away from game masters as its hit or miss as 2 if theres ner do wells in the gm slots causing trouble or not

One free tip ill give you that trips a lot of new people up is the ak74 for Russia starts out "battle sighted"at 440m as soon as you spawn so to compensate i recommend aiming for the lower groin or belt buckle area to compensate at ranges below 440m with the knowledge of as you get closer to 440m you start aiming at the chest or you can manually zero it to 100m everytime you spawn

Chevk the logs, reforger will always try to tell you as best as it can if something wrong is happening, depending on the mods you're using some might not compile because :

two mods share the exact class name

Conflict between mods

Faulty server config
Etc.

so yeah i'd recommend you save the logs somewhere and carefully read it all

Yeah I fixed mine by just disabling battle eye in the server.json

you need to set your "battleEye": false, in the gameProperties

Had some weird instance earlier where a game booted the entire lobby and you had to reload the game to rejoin and when you did it had completely reset the map and everything, it was my first conflict match in a good few months so anyone know what happened?

Almost certainly the server crashed. Nothing was needed except to wait in order to rejoin, and it restarted without the save from the previous match (which is normal).

I figured the first part and that it only rejoined after the game reloaded because of the time passed, rather annoying cos we were doing quite well.

Not nessasarily. Some communities have a public server, but many do not. Just to prevent those problematic players from destroying the experience. Over time, most people find a group they love, and as a result the public servers are left with those that have undesirable characteristics. It's the cycle of Arma games.

if arma 4 comes in 2027 then reforger will last at most 2 years and hell let loose will idk last longer depending on how vietnam goes. In reforger you can do everything and in hll you can only do ww2. Although every timeline other than 89 is usually mixed quality, more close to low quality.

reforger if you want to play many different eras, but suffer from lack of quality and hll if you want good quality for ww2. Different styles of games as you cant fly in hll while you can in reforger.

Hell let loose is more linear so you will meet much more enemies than reforger. Most of fights in reforger are like at max 3v3

I will say the personally I’ve enjoyed Reforger much more than HLL, partially due to me having better connection and stability on Reforger (I’m on PC), but mainly because you can do SO many different things in Reforger compared to HLL. The sandbox element of Arma (although arguably limited for casual players in Reforger) also adds much more free play fun.

In the community I play, everyone just uses filters to see at night and NVGs become useless. If they disabled nvidia filters it’d level the playing field and they wouldn’t have to code in that horrible gamma noise. Other developers are going the same route

Yeah I run CRX Enfusion AI. They seriously give us a run for our money hahah. If the op is not planned well and people aren't following said plan we will get flanked and destroyed.

Game will not search for servers. Search for KOTH, WCS, Vietnam will pull up ALL the servers, Modded and Vanilla.

Just start a game master match to try everything out there. Don't join a game where players are going to need the supplies you're using just to try things out for yourself.

It's a Vanilla + server with team ethics being built straight into the mechanics.
There are less than 25MB of downloads and optimised for consoles.
The combat medic system is quick and easy allowing you and your squad to get back into the fight and while bringing the combat medical role to the forefront of your squads survivability.

The Radio system is team orientated and makes the radioman vital for long range comms while also bringing this role more in line with the actual role as your role within the Squad actually means something rather than a rag tag mashup.

The Gentleman who's server this is, is ex service and actually knows what he is talking about while also being period correct to how a squad would be.

The mechanics of the server now make firefights far more intense, so if you've been running on Combat ops with friends then this would be the next step.

Hello everyone! I have the following situation: when I connect to the server, the FPS is consistently at 90. However, after a certain amount of time, it suddenly drops to 4 frames per second. The only solution is to restart the server. After restarting, everything works fine again, but the issue persists.

That's because most servers don't allow you to see yourself on the map or see waypoints, so they get confused. Every single new player will be playing like that. I usually just run towards fire which guarantees I can off 3-5 players by outflanking them if they are not experienced enough to be covering bases correctly

Also, reforger is a console game as well and controller gameplay in Arma is just terrible

Every single time I join a game I have 40ms, but then a couple minutes later it straight jumps to 999ms and I get kicked. No matter what server. I always have 40ms in the server browser and when I join. All other online games, etc. work perfectly fine too. Why can't I just play this beautiful game like everybody else? i struggle to play a simple match in almara factory and use custom loadouts on respawn.
why there is no "virtual arsenal" like arma3 ? i have to make my loadout every single time i die, its terrible.

PS: i tried placing an arsenal as zeus, and using it, plus saving loadout.
but there is only "save" option, and no "load" option.
plus... on respawn there is no additional "custom loadout" to choose, just standard ones.

Open bacon editor, go over to saved load outs. Save it and load it from inside there

My Experience as a Newbie and an Unfair Ban from the OG Community

I would like to seriously share my recent experience. I am a beginner in ARMA, having purchased the game on December 3, 2025. Since then, I’ve put in about 480 hours. For a beginner, the rules across different servers can be quite complex and tedious. However, in my 480 hours of play, I have only committed one rule violation—an ambush at a MOB (Main Operating Base) when I had less than 50 hours of experience, as I was still learning the ropes. That incident taught me the importance of reading server-specific rules, such as some servers forbidding attacks on FOBs (Forward Operating Bases).

Now, to the main point: Yesterday, January 16, 2026, I saw an idle helicopter at the MOB on the OG server. It had been sitting there for about 5 minutes, so I assumed it might have been abandoned. I walked up to the helicopter and asked loudly on local comms, "Is anyone using this helicopter?" I kept asking for about 2 minutes, and no one came up to tell me it was theirs.
After confirming this to myself, I flew the helicopter away. Ten minutes later, I was kicked. I later filed an appeal, only to be told that I had "stolen" the helicopter while it was being used to load a drone.

Just one day after submitting my appeal, I was inexplicably kicked out of the entire OG community. I’m not angry, but I want to share two subjective observations:
1> The OG community is not very fair.
2> Voice communication in ARMA can be a hurdle. I find the audio quality unclear sometimes; I usually need someone to stand right in front of me to hear exactly what they are saying.
It is possible someone did say the helicopter was theirs, but I simply didn't—or couldn't—hear them.

This gave me another lesson: never take an idle vehicle, or you'll inevitably be flagged for a rule violation.

I just don't use friendly vehicles that have been left in a friendly base ever, it is likely that someone left it there while they were doing something and intend on coming back for it.

And if I'm done with something in a friendly base, more more likely to decommission it than otherwise, unless if I found someone else to use it.

Assuming Conflict, I'd guess that you were trying to recuit the AI that have the little "can't be recruited" icon on them when you spawn them. Only the AI groups that are exclusively available in the large living quarters can be recruited.

Please consider that Arma has a global player base, including both large and smaller regions around the world.

I am a South African player, and our experience differs significantly from players in countries that have a local or nearby dedicated ping site. When accessing the server browser, the lowest ping visible to us is typically around 200 ms, as our traffic is routed to European ping sites.

This creates the impression—especially for new players—that there are no local or regional community servers available. As a result, many players become discouraged before they even start playing.

We do have a local South African community server, but it does not appear as such in the server browser due to the high reported ping caused by the EU-based ping site.

I respectfully ask that you consider adding a ping site in South Africa. This would allow local servers to appear correctly as “local,” significantly improving visibility, player retention, and overall community growth in the region.

Additionally, having a South African ping site would encourage more South African community servers to be hosted, as server owners would have better visibility and confidence that their servers are reachable and appealing to local players.

This change would undoubtedly attract more players, as they would immediately see accessible local servers and an active local community.

hey all, i have a community server with mods using desert highlands map. i am trying to add ai patrols like helicopters and qrf. i can build the config file, validate,load order optimized, scan for conflicts, reduce ai for better performance things like that. no matter what i do i cannot get my streamline server to run when i upload the file. i have taken my existing working file and added the ai patrols and again no mattrer what i do the server wont start. im sure im missing a step(s) somewhere but am at a loss. there are moids called coe2 i think that run the patrols but i cannot find right one to do it. It works correctly on singleplayer, but when we get on a server with the exact same preset, it just doesn't work. The control menu is there, all the keys are binded propperly, but when pressing them, we're just unable to do so.

I have been wondering lately why the devs made the american equipment so rubbish, i generally play on the soviet side as i tend to join the team with the fewest players but on the odd time the US has lower player numbers i am always struck by how awful the trucks are to drive, slow under powered on hills, no helo capable of fitting more than 300 cargo, i mean the russians have a bread van that fits more cargo. The US team seems to be at a huge disadvantage in core game mechanics

Is it though ? As i said i generally am on the soviet side, for the purposes of moving supplies and that is generally the mechanic which is decisive, the transport huey is certainly smaller and more agile but as a supply solution its in now way op in my experience, the gunships i find irrelevant on both sides, easily destroyed but as a soviet player i can move a significantly larger amount of supplies by land or air in a much shorter time and the difference is so apparant in matches as soon as supplies are depleted the american teams collapse and they dont have the tools available to match the soviet teams supply quantities and speed. I have won commanding the american teams but it is so much easier for the soviets.

Outside of introducing a new helicopter in the US won't have much for air transport with supplies anyway, unlike the Mi-8 (which obviously is and has loading bay doors for that) the Huey was not design for transporting supplies.

I mean hell it got bad enough in Vietnam that the US Army had to get a (mostly) whole new helicopter for transporting heavy loads.

Not to mention the fact that a big thing in the cold war was who could make better stuff, that was like half the cold war.

I agree it's annoying how underpowered US trucks can feel but there will always be imbalances. Like with scopes, when I started playing the game I refused to play USSR because I hated their scopes looking like a victorian camera. Not to mention the anti tank options with the US only getting LAW expendable anti tanks.

@latent gulch the teams have different trade-offs all over the place. There are tons of complaints on how OP the Huey is, because it is much better for the typical troop transport role in Conflict and has more shots of more powerful rockets on the gunship.

But it would be nice if they made the automatic transmissions better when going uphill.

I don't see them to be problematic either, because the sides have different trade-offs, and I appreciate that.

But the Hueys can fire rockets 14 times, max. The Mi-8 can fire 8 times, with worse rockets, while being a bigger and less agile target that has a harder time landing.

@latent gulch And the US has plenty of other advantages. Here are a handful of examples:

It has standard rifles and carbines that are more accurate, higher velocity, better penetration, better suppressors, clearer magnified optics, the option of a red dot, etc.

The M21 has double the magazine size and a both lower and higher magnification in the scope.

It has the M249, which the Soviets don't have an equivalent of (intermediate belt-fed LMG).

It has the M60 with AP rounds, which is ridiculously powerful.

Soviets don't get the option of light utility trucks or (extremely lightly) armored utility trucks with .50 cal guns that can be loaded with AP rounds.

The LAV has a very long range and very powerful cannon that is not matched by anything else in the game. It can reasonably kill anything it can see while being fairly mobile, having some transport ability, and having the best (but still not good) armor in the game.

C4 charges and M15 mines are more deadly than the Soviet equivalents. Americans get 40mm HEDP, which can at least kill the crew in any vehicle in the game.

As a player with more than 20+ years with Arma, I do wish there was more of a warning before updates, even the minor ones. They announce a heads up a few hours before, which is morning CET time, but that's a problem for those in North America when its 1-4am, so we're still asleep by the time the warning and even the update are made.

Very frustrating when hosting a bunch of servers, causing a lot of multiplayer users to bombard us about an update, namely our EU players or those who just have odd hours.

Conflict Commander is a boring af game mode. I'm sorry. I've tried to enjoy it but its entirely too restrictive and esoteric. Every match goes the same way for me. Join, no one is talking or coordinating. nothing is marked on the map. I can't see where my squad is. I join the on the closest ally and start walking_sim.exe. it shouldnt take a 9 step system to send an AI supply truck somewhere. that's stupid af. I see the vision the devs are going for. But there are some things that make the game harder for no reason other than a rigid compliance to "muh realism". ANY HUD that aids with the locating friendlies groupings on the map would be helpful. I'll die on this heckin hill. you can't prove me wrong. lol

You can always see your group leader on the map, and group leaders can always see all other group members.

And when you are close, you can always see your group members, including through walls.

Among other things to help stick together, like the assigned task, rally point, and shared radio frequency.

I'm not saying you should like the game mode, but there are already a bunch of UI and convenience things that prioritize coordination over realism.

I bought Arma reforger with a friend today. We played for maybe 45 minutes before we both got a connection failure. He was able to join back whilst I wasn't. Now I'm met with a long list of servers with either 1 or no players every time i try to get into multiplayer. I have restarted the game, my computer and my internet multiple times. If anyone has a solution or knows whats going on i would really apprieciate some help!

Sometimes it does a weird thing and installs a mod at the top of the list and then at the bottom of the list and goes from there. Try just going to the mod manager and installing it by itself.

You can host from inside the game (you'll most likely need to open ports on your router and forward them to your local machine) or you can use the reforger server standalone (it's in the steam store) which lets you run it "dedicated" outside of the game (very useful if your game crashes since you don't break it for anyone else and can rejoin) neither is something that can be covered well in here - google/duckduckgo is your friend 😉

No worries, my advice, look at the dedicated server way (you can still run it on your machine locally but it makes a whole bunch of stuff simpler in the long run at the cost of slightly more to learn at the start 🙂 - the big win is that you can run the server separate to reforger client so you can survive crashes or run it while you are doing other stuff etc)

Hey, all. So... I've got a dumb question that Google hasn't been able to help me solve. I've been hosting games for a small group of friends, and we all talked about trying some new mods out. When one friend started having issues even installing the mods, I've taken them off when hosting. However, when they try to connect, Reforger keeps trying to get them to install mods not even active in our game for some reason before they can join. Anyone know how we could fix this?

Play the campaign missions to get a feel and the air support mission for some heli practice. Or go into editor and just have fun trying stuff out. People on the official servers are chill so you shouldn’t have issue getting one of them to help with some of the multiplayer stuff you can do.

if you see timed out as a kick reason it is possible the server crashed which can be caused by mods, errors like internal error, jip error, script mismatch are usually caused by mods that dont work well in multiplayer, if the game crashes to home screen it's usually some bug, it can be in mods or game, or the console can run out of memory due to... again... mods, but in this case too many assets

I know I sound like a broken record with the mods thing but it really do be like that
